The material in the molds that are in position to register with the head B and parts 0. and 6 attached thereto is operated upon at each downward movement of such head and parts. The conveyer C receives and conveys the pallets from where received to and away from the molds and is preferably arranged at substantially right angles to the movement of the chain or belt to which the molds A A &c., are secured, as seen in Fig. 6. This conveyer preferably consists of two link chains'C G which are connected together by rods having a roller or other suitable bearing at each end to en.- gage with a suitable support X by which the pallets E, E, &c., carried by the conveyer are held in operative relation to the brick machine. These link chains C C are preferably composed of links of uniform dimensions adapted to be mounted on the octagonal pulleys 0, 0, as seen in Fig. 2 which are suitably mounted on the frame Y of the conveyer.

This conveyer belt or chain is adapted to receive the pallets, as they may be fed to it, and be proper distances into position the molds to receive the bricks relatively to the same are ejected or other structures as therefrom.
In this preferred construction means are provided by which the pallets, carried by the conveyer, are moved individually toward and away from the molds when they are brought into position to receive the bricks or other structures, as the same are ejected therefrom. This movement causes the pallets to close the open side of each mold as it is brought into position for the ejector to operate and remove the compressed material therefrom. This movement is caused to take place by means, which consist of two parts H, H, movable upwardly and. downwardly, as the pallets are to be moved, in a suitable frame attached to the conveyer mechanism. One end of each of these parts is adapted to engage with a pallet, as it is to be moved to close the open side of the mold. The other end of each of these parts H, H, is

All of these several parts are so proportioned and constructed that when the pallet is brought into position to receive the brick from the mold they cooperate with molds, ejector mechanism andwith one another to receive the brick from the molds as follows: The parts H, H, will engage with the pallet and move it toward the mold and close the same, ready to receive the brick or other structures as the same are ejected from the mold. About the time the pallet has closed the mold, the part b of the ejector mechanism starts toward the mold and comes into contact with the material therein to eject it therefrom. From the time this part Z) comes into contact with the material to eject it from the mold the part b and the parts H, H, move preferably at the same speed and to the same extent or in substantial unison one with the other during the operation of ejecting the material and depositing the-pallet on the conveyer, with the material thereon, in position to be carried on toward the point where the same is to be removed from the conveyer and placed on the car to be taken to the drying room or other desired point in the works.
By this movement in unison of the parts named in thepreferred construction shown the material is held in place and ejected from the molds and deposited on the pallet with little or no danger of being disturbed or distorted in form, thereby increasing the proportion of perfect brick or other structures formed and delivered by the machine.
If desired a scoring device as I may be attached to the hollow bed plate of the brick machine, as seen in Figs. 1 and 4, by which one side of the brick or other structures may be scored or grooved to receive the mortar when laid up .in a wall. This scoring device as I consists of a bar I having projections seen in Fig. 4 of the drawings. This bar is preferably arranged at the end of the bed plate X and at substantial right angles to the path of movement of the molds through preferably yieldingly containing the compressed material are preferably secured in place, as shown. Pins i i, &c., are secured to the sides of the links to which the molds are attached, as seen in Fig. 1, which cooperate with the cam surfaces formed on the upper edges of the pivoted levers I 1 to move the scoring bar I which is attached to the free ends of levers I 1 to move such bar out of scoring position and out of contact with the molds as they pass by the scoring device. The bed or hollow support X is preferably supplied with rollers or other suitable means :0, 50, &c., for holding the molds A A into desired contact with the hollow bed plate X. This hollow bed X is preferably provided with suitable pipes and valves, for connecting such bed with a supply of steam, as shown at P, P near the ends thereof, for heating the same and more or less heating the molds and material therein, thus preventing adhesion of such material as it passes over such bed.
Instead of moving the pallet alone toward and away from the mold to close and open the same to receive the brick or other structures therefrom, as shown in Fig. 2., the conveyer chains, with the pallet thereon, may be moved toward and away from the molds to close and open the same, as shown in Fig. 7.
If desired the partial heating of the material may be omitted and the conveyer used in operationwith the mold filling chamber, the compressing and ejecting mechanism, as the same is sometimes shown in the prior art, and as illustrated in Fig. 7 of the drawings. The general arrangement of filling chamber, compressing and ejector mechanism is well known in the art and does not need any detailed description herein to be fully understood. Also, if desired the repressing the brick a second time may be dispensed with and without in any way changing the cooperation of the pallet conveyer with the ejector mechanism of the machine, as will be manifest to those skilled in this art.
If desired, the means shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 and described herein for moving pallet toward and away from the mold to close and open the same may, when slightly modified, be used for moving pallet and chain links C C toward and away from the mold, or any other desired form of mechanism may be used for this purpose.
The construction thus shown may have the moving parts H, H, so changed that instead of engaging directly with the pallet alone that they be made to engage directly with the chain links themselves, so as to move such links and pallet bodily to close and open the molds. These parts H, H, seen in Fig. 2 are H H in Fig. 7 It is believed unnecessary to further describe this mechanism in detail that is indicated in Fig. 7 in order that it be fully understood.
Or when the material is of a nature to be compressed and remain in the compressed form and remain intact during the operation of being ejected from the molds, the closing and opening of the molds may be dispensed with and the pallet conveyer be advantageously used without the pallet being moved toward and away from the molds, as shown in Fig. 8, wherein the chain links C C may be arranged a sutlicient distance away from the molds to permit the pallet and brick upon the same to freely pass by them as the pallet is conveyed away therefrom to the point where the pallet with the brick upon it, is to be removed from the machine. hen so arranged the pallet may remain stationary, or nearly so, when receiving the brick or other structures upon being ejected from the molds. In such a case the parts If, H, and H, H and the mechanism by which they are operated is dispensed with, the cooperation of the conveyer with the mold and ejector device being substantially the feeding of the pallets into the machine to receive the brick and convey them to the point where the same are to be removed.
The operation of brick machines of the general class herein shown is well known to those skilled in this art. Consequently, it is only necessary to describe the operation of the conveyer in connection with the general class of machines shown. The conveyer and operating mechanism, as shown, is so combined with a machine having means for ejecting brick or analogous articles from the molds that the conveyer operates intermittently in unison with the intermittent movement of the molds. Consequently, the endless conveyer chains or belt may, as seen in Figs. 1, 2 and 8, remain substantially stationary while the pallets receive the compressed material as the same is ejected from the molds after being formed or shaped therein. As shown in Fig. 7 the conveyer chains or belt, as before explained, are moved toward and away from the molds and cause the pallets to correspondingly move to close and open the molds while the material is being ejected therefrom. At each revolution of the wheel or shaft Z of the brick machine the bar or link d and rock shaft 1 with the links or connections (Z, d, &c., the pawl D is caused to take on a forward and backward movement and as the free end of this pawl engages with the chain links C C as it starts forward, such chains or belt is moved forward a little more than the length of a pallet as E see Fig. 2, into position to receive the brick or similar articles as they are ejected from the molds. During the backward movement of the pawl D it is brought into position to again engage with the chains C C or belt ready to move the same a distance forward to bring another pallet into position to receive the brick from the same, so far as concerns another mold. 'lVhen the pallet is thus brought into position the pallet, as seen in Figs. 1, 2 and 7, is moved into position for it to close the mold by the operation oi the parts H, H, and H H through means of the links or parts as they are moved by the oscillation of the levers H H through their being connected with the cam which moves as the main wheel or shaft Z moves, when it is in motion, by means of the connecting parts H H H H and H", co operating with such cam. As seen in Figs. 1. and 2, the parts H, H, engage directly with the pallet to close and open the mold, while in Fig. 7 the parts H H engage directly with the chains 0 C and move the pallet upon them to close and open the mold.
I have shown and described that diiiierent combinations of parts having specific characteristics and different specific constructions or forms of parts may be used in the place or places of some that are herein shown without in any way changing the character or cooperative relations of the parts of such combinations, as must be manifest to a mechanic, and therefore, I do not wish to be limited to the specific forms and constructions of parts herein shown, but wish to include each and all that are within the spirit of my invention.
l V hat I claim as new is 1. In a machine having molds open on opposite sides, a stationary bed over which Copies of this the molds move, pressing and ejecting means for forming brick and analogous articles, the combination, substantially as described, of a pallet conveyor arranged adjacent to the stationary bed adapted to receive and convey pallets into register with the ejector means and means adapted to engage directly with the pallet received by the conveyer and move it independently of the conveyer toward and away from the mold to close the same to receive the formed brick and return the pallet to the conveyer.
2. In a machine having movable molds open at top and bottom, pressing and ejecting mechanisms movable toward and away from the top portion of the molds for forming brick and analogous articles, the combination, substantially as described, of a bed or support over which the molds move into reg-' ister with the ejector mechanism, movable scoring means constructed and arranged to enter the mold, and means adapted to move the scoring means into that side of the mold opposite to that at which the ejector enters to score or roughen one side of the contents thereof. 7
