Description

H. A. BODE.
COLLAR HOOK.
APPLICATION man FEB. 21. 191B.
Patented Oct. 15, 1918.
affozn e1 HARRY A. BODE, OF DENVER, COLORADO.-
COLLAR-HOOK.
Application filed February 27, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY A.'B0DE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Hooks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying draw lugs.
This invention relates to a collar hook and has for its primary object to provide a simple and serviceable article for holding the back of the collar in connection with the collar band of the shirt While the ends of the collar are being buttoned or fixed together in front.
It is a more particular object of the invention to provide a device for the above purpose which can be inexpensively formed from sheet metal in a single stamping operation.
It is another and more particular object of the invention to provide a collar hook which is so constructed that it may be very easily and quickly engaged through the button holes in the neck band of the shirt and the collar and operatively associated with the latter.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the improved construction and arrangement of the several parts of the device as will be hereinafter more fully described, subsequently claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and wherein- Figure l is a perspective view, parts of the collar being broken away illustrating the application and use of my improved collar hook;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the hook.
Referring in detail to the drawing, C designates a collar and N the neck band of a shirt which is of the usual construction, having a loose outer fold provided with a button hole indicated at n. The inner fold of the collar at the back or center portion thereof, is also provided with a button hole 0 adjacent its lower edge.
My improved collar hook, designated gen erally by the numeral 5 is formed from a metal plate having an elongated head 6 which is slightly curved longitudinally to Specification of Letters Patent.

conform to the bend of the collar. An arm or shank 7 is integrally connected centrally to said head at one of its longitudinal edges and at the point of connection, the metal 'plate is laterally oflset, as shown at 8. Ad-
jacent the extremity of the arm 7, an offset or shoulder 9 is formed therein, and the terminal of the arm is preferably tapered and slightly curved as at 10 so as to facilitate its engagement through the neck band of the shirt and the collar. In the use of the device as above described, the collar is placed around the neck and the button hole a therein is disposed in registering relation with the button hole n, in the outer fold of the shirt. The arm 7 which has first been inserted through the button hole a, is engaged through the collar button hole in thus arranging the collar in position, and the lower edge of the collar rests upon the ofiset or shoulder 9 on said arm. The other offset or shoulder 8 at the upper end of the arm is engaged with the upper edge of the button hole in the collar and in conjunction with the shoulder 9 will thus effectively prevent relative shifting movement of the collar and the neck band. Thus the collar will be securely held in connection with the shirt neck band at the rear while the ends of the collar are fastened over the head of the button in the front of the shirt neck band. In this manner, it will be seen that I have produced a very simple, effective and serviceable article which can be easily and quickly arranged in operative position to securely hold the collar against displacement with respect to the neck band of the shirt. In removing the collar, after the ends have been detached from the front button, the collar at the rear is simply forced downwardly upon the arm 7 of the collar hook, the latter remaining in connection with the neck band of the shirt.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction, manner of use and several advantages of the device will be clearly and fully understood. It will be appreciated that the article can be manufactured in large quantities at relatively.
small cost, and is also very durable and serviceable in practical use. Of course the collar hook can be made of gold, silver or any other desired metal and while I have herein shown and described the preferred form and construction of the device, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of considerable modification, and I therefore reserve the privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim is:
As an improved article of manufacture, a collar hook having a longitudinally curved metal body plate and an arm extending at right angles to the body plate and integral therewith, said arm being laterally oilset at its juncture with the body plate and also laterally offset adjacent to its end to provide spaced retaining shoulders in the arm substantially as and for the purpose set 15 forth.
In testimony whereof I hereun o affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses. HARRY A. BODE. lVitnesses L. E. CRUMB. W. R. HORNER.
