Description

H. C. TULLEY.
FITTING FOR CHANDELIERS. APPLICATION mm m. 29. 1911.
Patented 00th s, 1918;
UNITED STA TES, PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY C. TULLEY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
ri'r'rnvo FOR crrmnnunns.
' anging of electrical fixtures, in which said fitting 1s applicable for either attaching to a depending gas pipe or to the ceiling itself as the occasion requires, and in which, if the fitting is attached to a depending gas pipe, means are formed on the fitting in which the fitting will serve as a cap or cut-off for preventing escaping gas from the pipe.
Another object of this invention is to provide an improved combination fitting, in which are formed the essentials which are known as a crow-foot attachment, a gas pipe mg, in w cutoff and wire feed opening to the fixture to be attached.
Other and further objects will appear in the specification and be specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanyin drawingls exemplifying theinvention, .an in whic Figure l is a vertical section through this improved fitting.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation, partly in section, taken on the line IIII of Fig. 1. A
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1, but showlng a threaded male fixture attachment formed in the lower end thereof.
Fig. 4 is another embodiment of this improved fitting without the insulation joint.
The main theme of this invention is to provide a fitting relative to the hanging of electrical fixtures, in which all the present known attachments are combined in one so that said fitting will meet all of the requirements relative to providing a ceiling support for the fixture, as in some cases, electrical fixtures are to be hung in lieu of gas fixtures, in which case the support for the fixture is generall attached to the depending gas pipe whic protrudes from the ceiling, and on the other hand, where there is no gas piping, the support is secured to the ceilch instance a crow-foot fitting is used.
This invention therefore provides for a- Specification of Letters Patent.
proved fitting, assumin that all the essentials desired, or secured to the ceiling without the aid of a gas pipe. Furthermore, means are provided for feeding the wiring through the fixture.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a body portion in which is formed a threaded socket 2, and extending from said body portlon and radiating therefrom, are a plurality of supporting members 4.
Formed on said body portion adjacent the lower end thereof is an annular groove 5,
said groove being for the clamping of the upper end of a fixture supporting portion 6,
and clamped between said body portion 1 and said fixture supporting portion 6 is an insulation 7.
Formed integral with said portion 6 are a pair of oppositely disposed depending legs 8, and secured to the lower end of said legs is aninteri'orlythreaded member 9.
As afore related, when using this im-' tt h d d that the same is to ea ace toa epenin ceilin s ie A, from which an oldg fixturi li as iu st been detached, the threaded body portion 1 is engaged on the threads of the gas pipe, thereby fitting in place ready for the ban of a fixture, sald socketincidentally provi ing'a gas cut-01f or cap-to the gas pipe, thereby preventing leakage of gas.
The fixture B is then hung in the usual manner by securin the threaded portion thereof in the three ed member 9. The electrical wiring C is then fed down from the ceiling through the passageway 10 formed by the legs 8 and threaded member 9, and into the fixture B.
From the aforesaid, it is therefore seen called for are provided in this improved fitting relative to mounting the same to a depending gas ipe, after which the wiring is then fed dbwn through the self contained means provided, into the fixture.
In case there is no gas pipe to attach this improved fixture, screws. 11 are secured to the sisipporting members 4 and to the ceil- Tn hanging electrical fixtures, it is sometimes required'that an exterior threading be provided on the support or ceiling fitting. In this connection, attention is called to Fig. 3, in which an exterior threading 12 is provided on the nipple portion 13, the re- Patented Oct. 8, 1918. Application filed larch 29, 1917. socket 2 of the' securing this improved mainder of the construction of the fitting shown in said figure being similar to that shown in Fig. 1.
Referring to the embodiment shown in Fig. 4, e fitting is shown without the insulotion, said fitting being made in one piece, and providing it threaded socket 14, wire feed-passageway 15, hollow threaded portion 16 and ceiling supporting members 17, all of said numbered ports in said figure be ing essential to n fitting of this character.
What 1 claim is:
1. A fitting comprising a body portion, a threaded socket formed in the upper end of said body portion, a securing member extending from said body portion, and a fixture supporting portion comprising grooved portion formed on the lower end of said body portion.
A fitting comprising a body portion, a threaded closing cit socket formed in one end of said body] portion, n fixture support ing portion formed on the lower end of said body portion comprising an annular grooved portion to Which said fixture supporting portion is clamped, an insulated portion clamped between said grooved portion of said body portlon and said fixture sup porting portion, and plurality of securing arms extending from said diets of its ends,
3. A fitting comprising a threaded socket formed in.
body portion, a said body portion, s curing members exten ling from said body portion, interme-- body portion, said body portion having on annular groove formed thereon, said socket being centrally arranged relative to said securing members, a fixture supporting portion secured to the rooveof said body portion, an insulated a-yer clamped between said body portion and said fixture supporting portion, and a wire feed-passageway formed in said fixture supporting portion.
4t. A fittin comprising a. bod portion, a threaded soc et formed in said body portion, securing members extending from said bodyportion, said body portion having an annular groove adjaoent its lower end, said socket being centrally arranged relative to said securing members, a fixture supporting portion secured to the groove of said body portion, and an insulated portion located etween said body portion and said fixture supporting portion.
5. A fitting comprising a bod portion, a threaded socket formed in sai body portion, securing members extending from said body portion, said body ortion having an annular groove adjacent its lower end, said socket being centrally arranged relative to said securing members, a fixture supporting portion secured to the groove of said body portion, a wire feed-passageway formed in said fixture supporting portion, and an insulated portion located between said body portion and said fixture supporting portion.
