JAMES FRED CREE, OF WATERFORD, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO CLUETT, PEABQDY & CO.
INC., OF TROY, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
SOFT FOLD-COLLAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 8, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES F. CREE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterford, county of Saratoga, and Stat of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in boft Fold-Collars, of which the following is a specification.
Reference may be had to the accompanying drawings, and the reference characters marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. Similar characters refer to similar arts in the several figures therein.
This invention relates to fold-collars of various kinds, and is more particularly adapted for soft fold-collars, wherein it is desirable to have the ends of the folded-over top of the collar held in close relationship to the band of the collar.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a cheap and simple means whereby the ends of the folded-over top can be so held in close relationship to the band of the collar.
Other objects will appear in connection with the following description.
Figure l of the drawings is a plan view of a soft fold-collar embodying myinventfziion with the top of the collar opened out Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of a brokenaway end-portion of the folded collar showing the inner side of the band.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the same.
Fig. 4 is a view in front elevation of a broken-away end-portion of the collar, and a neighboring broken-away portion of a shirt, illustrating the manner in which the top-retaining loop on the first-buttoned end of the-collar is attached to the front collarbutton.
Fig. 5 is a similar view showing the neighboring end of the band buttoned upon said collarbutton over said loop.
Fig. 6 is a similar view illustrating the manner of attaching the loop on the other end of the collar to said collar-button.
Fig. 7 is a'similar view showing the ends of the collar fully buttoned upon said collar-button.
Referring to the drawings wherein the invention is shown in preferred form 1 is the band, and 2 the top of a collar. l3oth the top and the band may be made soft or not stiflly starched.
The band is provided with the usual and buttonholes, 3 and 4, adapted to engage the front collar-button, ,5, whereby said ends of the band are detachably' secured to the neckband, 6, of a shirt, 7 in the usual manner.
The band may also be provided with the usual back buttonhole, 8, or such other fastening means as may be'desired.
The top is folded along its line of attachment to the band over upon the outer side of the band in the usual manner.
In carrying out my invention, I attach .by stitching, 9, to the inner side of the top near each end, one end of a tape-loop, 10, 10, the other end of which is insertible through an opening, 11, formed through the band gd acent to the respective end buttonhole,
This tape-loop, 10, is of such length that ltsother end is adapted to encircle a colla button inserted through said adjacent en buttonhole.
In applying the collar, the loops, 10, 10', are inserted through the respective openings, 11, so that they project from the inner side of the band as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The loop on the first-buttoned end of the collar is then passed over the head of the front collar-button, 5, which projects from the neckband, 6, of the shirt in the manner illustrated in Fig. l. The neighboring end of the band is then buttoned upon sald collarbutton, 5, in the usual manner, as shown in Fig. 5.
The tape-loop, 10, on the last-buttoned end of the collar is then passed over the head of said collar button, 5, as shown in Fig, 6, after which the last-buttoned end. if the band is buttoned upon said collar'button, 5, in the usual manner, with said last-buttoned end of the band inserted between the band and the folded-over top at the other end of the collar, as shown in Fig. 7.
Vhen the collar has been thus attached, the loops, 10, 10, serve as straps which hold the ends of the folded-over top in close en-- gagement with the band of the collar.
For certain purposes of the invention, the form of the strap or loop is immaterial, so long as its end which is inserted through the opening in the band is adapted to engage the same collar button or fastenin device which is engaged by the adjacent en buttonhole in the band. V
By the means above described, I am able to avoid the use of buttons on the collar as a means for holding the ends of the foldedover top in proper position with relation to the band, and the collar can be readily laundried, as the loops or straps, 10, 10, can be made of launderable material. a
As the tape-loops or straps are covered by the respective ends of the band, there is no visible evidence in use of the means whereby the ends of the folded-over top are held in position.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is-.
1. A fold-collar having a band provided near its end with a buttonhole adapted to engage a collar-button, and with an opening through the band adjacent to said buttonhole; a folded-over top; and a strap attached to the inner side of the folded-over to near its end adjacent to said end of the ban said strap being insertible through said opening in the band and engageable with a collarbutton inserted in said buttonhole in the band.
2. A fold-collar havin a band provided near its end with a buttonhole adapted to engage a collar-button, and with an opening through the band adjacent to said buttonhole; a folded-over top; and a flexible loop attached to the inner side of the folded-over top near its end adjacent to said end of the band, said loop being insertible through said opening in the band, and adapted to encircle a collar-button inserted in said buttonhole in the band.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto
