Description

A. MAZON & A. CALLES.
HAND BAG LOCK.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT.28. 1917.
Patented Sept. 17,1918.
I'NVENTOW Z 1/ we WITNESSES ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT MAZON AND ANDRES CALLES, OF SANTE FE, NEW MEXICO.
HAND-BAG LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 1'7, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALBERT MAZON and ANDRES CALLES, citizens of the United States,
.residing at Sante Fe, in the county of Sante Fe and State of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand-Bag Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hand bag locks and the primary object is to provide an efficient device for locking and holding two traveling bags or the like together so that it will be impossible to pick up and carry away one without the other.
One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a loose connection between two hand grips or traveling bags so that when they are placed by the owner in a temporary resting place as, for instance, in a railway station or other public building, the two bags will be held together preventing the theft of either one or both of them.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a hand bag lock which consists of comparatively few parts and is simple in construction, but durable and well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which de-.
vices of this character are ordinarily subjected.
For a full description of the invention and the advantages and merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the accompanying drawing wherein is illustrated the preferred form of our invention, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of two hand bags showing the invention attached thereto.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device detached.
Referring to the drawing wherein is illustrated the preferred form of our invention, in which like numerals of reference indicate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, a pair of chains 1 and 2 are provided of any suitable length and these are fastened securely together intermediate their ends so that a cross chain is provided having four radiating portions and the ter-.
minals of three of the portions are provided with rings 3 for attaching them to convenient parts of the baggage or hand luggage. The remaining chain is provided at its terminal with a suitable padlock 4 having an arcuate shackle 5. This lock is adapted to be unlocked by a key in the usual manner.
When in use, the chain will be passed through the handles of the hand grip and two of the ends attached to the shackle 5 by inserting the shackle through the ring 3. The shackle will then be closed and snapped to locked position and if it is desired to connect more hand luggage to the device the other chains may also be fastened to the handles thereof. It will be obvious that any number of chains may be provided and each will have a ring 3 at its end for engagement with the shackle 5 of thepadlock, and it will be impossible to move one of the hand bags without disturbing'the other or others.
If desired a short length of chain 6 may be attached to one of the chains of the device and the chain 6 will be provided with a suitable frame for the inserting of a hand plate 7 to identify the bags if they are placed in a checking room or the like.
From the foregoing it will be observed that a very simple and durable hand bag lock has been provided, the details of which embody the preferred form. We desire it to be understood that slight changes in the minor details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
Claim A handbag lock, adapted for use with a plurality of hand bags, each having ahandle, comprising flexible chains of substantially equal length fastened securely together intermediate their ends to provide a plurality of relatively short portions extending from a common point of juncture, one of the said short lengths having a lock at its end provided with a shackle, and rings attached to all of the terminals of the other chains and adapted to be passed through the handles of the hand bags and beengaged with the said shackles.
In testlmony whereof we affix our signatures 1n presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT MAZON.
ANDRES CALLES.
