Description
0. L. BAXTER. DOOR 0H WINDOW CONSTRUCTION.
APPLICATION FILED 1UNE29. 19H- 1,278,827. Patented Sept. 17,1918.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OSCAR LEONARD BAXTER, 0F COLUMBUS, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO SOLAR METAL PRODUCTS COMPANY, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK. 7
DOOR OR WINDOW CONSTRUCTION.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Oscar: LEONARD BAX- TER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door or VVindow Constructions, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to door or window construction and has for its main object the provision of a peculiarly formed structure carried by the outer edge of the trim, which serves as an abutment for the plaster and also serves as a gage by which the thickness of the plaster may be governed. The primary advantage of this structure results from the fact that the joining edge between the plastered wall and the door or window frame construction is completely hidden. Additionally, it is well known that where the plaster is run up flush to an exposed edge, this plaster frequently chips or cracks off, thus giving an unsightly appearance. This my invention overcomes because the abutment for the plaster is located beneath the trim body.
A further object of my invention resides in forming the jamb, trim and plaster gage and abutment from one piece which may be subsequently shaped and joined to form the desired type of door or window frame and which is then placed in position within the building and thewall built into the same. By this arrangement, the cost is very materially reduced,
The preferred embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts, and in which:
Figure 1 is a view slfowing my invention applied to a door frame, and,
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1, showing the frame itself in solid outline and the building wall, plaster and anchorsin dotted outline.
By referring to Fig. 2, it will be noted that the jamb portion 1 and the trim portions 2 are integrally formed. The desired shape is given the trim and the combined framework is of a size slightly larger than the width of the building wall. The rear Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept, 1'7, 1918.
Application filed June 29, 1917.
Serial No. 177,639.
What I claim, is:
A door or window frame comprising a trim portion terminating at its outer edge in a downturned flange, a substantially Z- shaped portion having both legs projecting toward the door opening. and the intermedito the other leg of said Z-shaped portion and ate portion projecting toward the wall, said embedded in the building Wall. 10 Z-shaped portion being attached to said In testimony whereof I aflix my signature flange and located beneath the trim, one of in presence of two witnesses.
5 the legs of said Z-shaperl portion serving as OSCAR LEONARD BAXTER.
a gage governing the plaster thickness and Vfitnesses: the intermediate portion serving as a plaster WALTER E. L. 1300K, abutment, and a plurality. of anchors secured A. L. PHELPS.
