ELECTRIC CONNECTOR.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN BERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Electric Connectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates particularly to electric-connectors, such as are used for connecting electric-conductors together, or for connecting electricconductors to any electrical device, such as an electric-lamp, or other electrical device. The primary object is to provide a connector with an improved switch device, whereby the circuit may be established or broken with facility, as desired.

Referring to Figs. 1 to 6, inclusive, A represents the improved connector, which, in this form is adapted to be mounted upon an automobi e dash, and whichY is shown equipped with a removable guard A1, which serves also as a refiector; B, a lamp or electric bulb removably mounted in one end of the connector A; and C, a dash of an automobile body, to which the connector A may be conveniently attached.
In the construction illustrated, the connector A comprises a metal shell or sleeve 1, one end of which is provided with a bayonet slot 2 for securin the lamp B, and the other end of which is tted with a plug 3, which Specification of Letters Patent.

As has been indicated, the switch-disk 4 is interposed between the lamp and the 3. are adapted to register with the conta t members 3", and with the contact-members of the lamp, as shown in Fig. 3. By turning the sW1tchdisk from the position shown Vin Fig. 5, the pin 5 moving through the segmental slots 6, the contact-members 4 will be thrown out of registration with the contact-members 7*1 of the lamp. The ring contact-members 3" are of segmentalgorm, and are inclined orY sloped away from the end of the plu 3. These spring contactmembers are un er suliicient pressure to hold the switch-disk firmly against the base end ofthe lamp. The slots 6 are of sufficient width .to permit a certain amount of longitudinal movement of the switch-disk within theA shell 1. Preferably, however, each slot 6 is provided at one side of its end-portions with recesses 6, which are seperated by a curved edge 6", the convexity of which is preferably suliicient to revent accidental shifting of the switchislr. The stud 5 should be so disposed as to be substantially out of contact with the walls of the recesses 6, in order that the spring-contacts 3h may serve effectively to crowd 'the switch-disk against the base end ofthe lamp.
`In the modification shown in Fig. 7, the construction is similar to that described, ex- .cept that the shell, here designated 1, is tted s' one end with a plug 3', equipped with spring-pressed plunger contacts 3E; and vthe flange 1a for attachment to a dash `is omitted.' The switch-disk 4 is provided, as in the first described construction. In this modilication, also, the plug 3' projects from the shell and is equipped with lateral studs 9 adapted to engage the bayonet slots 10 of a connector 11, which is attached to conductors 12. This enables the lamp to be used as an ex lorin lamp; and it ma be disconnected om t ie connector 11 an inserted in any usual. connector applied to a "dash, so' that thelamp may also be used as a'.4 dash-lamp.
The construction described issimple and thoroughly adapted to its purpose. The
switch-disk is of exceedingly simple 'form and not liable to get out of order. It may be .readily introduced into the shell and the pin 5 carrying the actuating-handle 5"" may 'then be thrust through a close-fitting peroration in the switch-disk, the stud also `extending through the segmental slots 6 of the shell.

Whatj regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A device of the character set forth, comprising an integral shell provided at one end with bayonet-slots and provided also with a median lateral se ental slot, an annular guard-holder encircli and embracing t e bayonet-slot end o said shell, a plug secured 1n the other end of said shell and equipped at its inner end with s ringf contacts, and a switch-disk of ins ating material within the median portion of said shell and sqil-lipped with an actuati handle extending t rough said segmental ot, said switch-disk being adapted to oscillate with relation to said plug and havinv contactposts extending therethrough an adapted to engage said spring-contacts.
2. A device of the character set forth comprising a shell provided with -median lateral segmental slots having recesses at one -s-ide of their end-portions, a lamp havin a shank secured in one end of said shell an equipped at the inner end with contacts, a plug secured in the other end of said shell and equipped with spring-contacts, and an interposed rotatable sviimh-disk of insulat' ing material adapted to oscillate with rela# tion to both said lamp-shank and plug and provided with a lateral actuating stud which is normally out of engagement with the walls of said slots and provided also with metal contact-posts extending through said disk and having extremities at one end adapted to engage said spring-contacts and extremities at the other end adapted to be thrown into and out of registration with said lam contacts by osci lation of said switch-dis 3.
