To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Gnonen H. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Corset, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to wearing apparel and has specific reference to a corset, an object of the invention being to provide a simple garment in which an adjustment for any part of the body covered thereby may be quickly and conveniently effected without disturbing the clothing and in which the lacing is free of contact with the body thereby avoiding discomfort to the wearer, affording ventilation and removing all possibility of annoying pressure on the spine.

In the accompanying drawing I have illustrated a preferable form of my invention.

Referring in detail to the drawings, 1 and 2 designate the sections of a corset, each edge 3 and 1, respectively, of which is provided with a row of eyelets 5 and 6, respectively. In each of the eyelets 5 and 6, is pivotally and removably hooked a means, as a stirrup 7 and 8, respectively, which extend beyond the edge of each section 1 and 2, and through which are threaded a plurality of series of tapes or laces 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13, the tapes 9 and 10 running from top to bottom, and the tapes 11, 12 and 13, running from bottom to top, whereby the line of draw of each lace is always in a direction toward the waist.

The respective terminals of the tapes eX- tend around the corset to the front in convenient position for manipulation by the user, locks or clasps 14 and 15, respectively, being provided on a stay or other rigid support 16 and 17, respectively sewed or otherwise fastened onto each section 1 and 2 of the garment to hold the tapes or laces in adjusted position and readily to release same from such position when the comfort or necessity of the wearer requires.

In Fig. 2 is shown one of the looks or clasps, which consists of a strip of metal 18, bent upon the edges of the stay 16, and having ears 19, for pivotally mounting an elongated lever 20, formed with a serrated portion 21, for engaging the tapes or laces,

the-elongated lever 20 being provided for the purpose of facilitating the operation of releasing by manipulation of the tapes and without the use of the hands.

These tapes or laces are passed through a plurality of loops 22 and 28, respectively, on eachsection of the corset, and are thereby held in flat position.

By this construction it will be obvious that any portion of the corset may be adjusted to form, regardless of deformities or irregularities, and that the stirrups, while permitting adjustment to the figure, keep the tapes flat and free from contact With'the body and admit of free and unrestricted movement of the body.

As seen, the terminals of the tapes extend to the front of the corset, thus making it possible for the wearer to effect any adjustment without disarranging or rumpling the clothing.

What I claim, is

1. A corset comprising two sections, each provided with a row of eyelets, a stirrup pivotally hooked in each eyelet, a plurality of series of tapes threaded through said stirrups and adjustably conjoining the sections, and means to lock and unlock the terminals of each tape on the front of the corset.

2. A corset comprising two sections, each provided in the back thereof with a row of eyelets, a stirrup pivotally and removably hooked in each eyelet, a plurality of series of tapes threaded through said stirrups and conjoining the sections, a plurality of loops on the front of the sections through which the tapes pass to hold same in fiat position, and locking means on the front of the corset for the tape terminals.

3. A corset comprising two sections, each provided with a row of eyelets, removable and pivotal means in each eyelet and ex tending beyond the edge of each section, a plurality of series of tapes threaded through said pivotal means and conjoining the sections at the back, and clasps on the front of the corset for holding the tape terminal in adjusted position, said clasps operable by said tapes to release same from looking engagement therewith.
