Description

J. MATERNA.
BOTTLE CAYPPIN/GMACHINE. APPLICATION mw AUG-31. 1915.
Patented J nne 11, 191%.
awua/wtor Jae jwaiwwza JOE MATERNA, OF ST. CLOUD, MINNESOTA.
BOTTLE-CAPPING MACHINE.
Application filed August 81, 1915.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jon MATERNA, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Cloud, in the county of Stearns and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Capping Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottle capping machines and the principal object of the invention is to provide a simple and efiicient 1 device of this character which is adapted for applying old or new caps with equal facility and which is adapted to apply caps to bottles of varying heights with equal facility.
Further objects of the invention will a pear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application and in Which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Fig. 3 is a detail vertical sectional View.
eferring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents a mounting plate or board which is secured to a vertical support such as a wall 2 here shown in section At the lower end of the mounting plate there is secured thereto a laterally projecting bean 80 ing member 3 in which is threaded an adjusting screw 4 supporting upon its upper end a table 5 held against rotation with the screw by means of guiding clips 6 extending upon opposite sides of the mounting board 1. The table 5 is arranged to hold a bottle and is adjustable vertically so that the machine can operate upon bottles of varying heights.
Carried adjacent the upper end of the 4 mounting board is a cylinder 7 in which is mounted a piston 8 having an operating rod 9 extending vertically therefrom through the upper end of the cylinder where it has pivotal connection with a slotted lever 10 pivoted upon the bracket 11 secured to the Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 11, 1918 Serial No. 48,342.
mounting board. The piston has also secured thereto a plunger 12 which extends through the lower end of the cylinder and which is threaded upon its lower end as shown at 13 for adjustable engagement within a threaded opening in a cap engaging member 14 which surrounds a suitable anvil member arranged to engage the upper surface of the cap or stopper.
In the operation of the device the table 5 is adjusted to the proper height by the manipulation of the screw 4 and the bottle placed thereon with its cap superposed and in position to be engaged by the head 011 the plunger 12. The lever 10 is then depressed, carrying with it the piston 8 and the plunger 12 whereby the member 14 will engage the cap and force it into place upon the neck of the bottle. The same operation is followed in applying the cork which is, of course, previously partially inserted in the neck of the bottle.
at is claimed is 2- In a bottle capping machine, a vertical supporting plate, a forwardly and horizontally extending arm disposed on the face thereof and provided with a central threaded opening, an upwardly extending screw threaded through said opening, a bottle supporting table of less width than said plate mounted on the upper end of said screw, and clips secured upon the sides of said table and projecting laterally therefrom and hav ing their outer ends bent rearwardly to slidably engage the side edges of said plate v whereby said table is prevented from lateral movement and rotary movement with said screw.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOE MATERNA.
