Description

` H. GEHNRI'CH, WALL CONNECTION FOR OVENS. PPLICATION FILED JUNE I4 |917.
Patented June 4, 1918.
'WALL CONNECTION FOR OVENS.
Application tiled J une 14, 1917. Serial No. 174,797.
To all lwhom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, HERMANN GEHNRIGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wall Connections for Ovens, of which the 4following is a specification.
This invention relates to a method of c onnecting the wall sections of an oven similar to that described in U. S. Patent 835,945
granted to me Nov. 13, 1906.
The present invention is designed to provide a sheet metal joint in which the wall sections can be easily litted together and are kept in perfect alinement with each other.
The fundamental object of the invention is to provide one of the sections with a hook member, and a second section with means for sliding coaction with the hook member. In a construction of this kind when there is any undue pressure in the oven by the i ition of noxious vapors, the'sliding wall will be displaced and injuryy tov the other walls is averted.
l The novel features of the invention are more fully described in the following speci- Iication and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 represents a sectional side elevat tion of the upper part of an oven embodying this invention. V
Fig. -2 is a similar section of a portion of tha oven showing the top removed from the s1 e.v
In this drawing are shown side wall sections a and a top wall section b connected to the sides. Each section is formed of double walls spaced apart and a filling of asbestos c is arranged to lill the space between the walls to prevent radiation of the heat generated in the oven. l
The side wall section is e uipped with an upwardly extending flan e formed by lapping ,the ends of one wa over the other.
On this extension is fitted a hook or locking member having double shank portions e and f with a loop top to snugly lit over the extension and clasp its sides. This hook formed by looping the lower portion of the shank f and bending it upwardly to parallel the Shanks best seen in Fig. 2. A
The top section b has la dependin `lia e portion L formed by lapping the dongle vi'lxll plates. This depending portion is spaced to form a channel z' located between the end of the section and the inner wall of the depend'- ing flange. A cushion j can be placed between the top and side sections to give a tight closure to the joint.
As indicated in the drawing, the locking member for connecting the two sections together forms a double reverse hook one portion of which is firmly clamped tothe extension. When the top is placed onto the side as indicated in Fig. 1, the reverse portion of the hook will engage the channel in the top section and the depending part of the to will engage the space between the hook an its shank, thus preventing lateral displacement of the top and side. In this'structure when the ases in the oven are accidentally exploded, by the force, while the other Walls remain intact.
1. A sheet metal joint comprising a wall section havin an extension, a hook member formed wlth a doubled return bent portion fitted on to the extension, said member including a return bent end, and a wall section provided with a flange for coaction with the returny bent end.
2. A sheet metal joint comprising a side wall section having an extension, a hook member formed with a doubled return bent portion fitted on to the extension, said member including a return bent end, and a top wall section having a dependin flange for coaction with the return bent engl.
3. A sheet metal joint comprising a double Walled side section having an upwardly projecting extension made by lappin the ends of one wall over the other, a hoo member formed with a doubled return bent portion GEHN'BICH, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOB TO GEHNRICH INDIRECT f OVEN COMPANY, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, .A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
