Description

"JHN" DAVENPORT.
`Improverrmrlin Mdircated Bath Appra'tus.l
No 126 878 Patented May 21,1 3Z.2.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN DAVENPORT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDlCATED-BATH APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,87 8, dated May 21, 1872.
To all'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN DAVENPORT, o Manayunk, city of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Apparatus that I style Improved Medicated Bath, and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and combination of the oval receiver, with its upright perforated copper cylinders, and perforated square chamber at top. The object of this apparatus is to contain hotair or vapor, supplied through an opening in the side of the chamber or receiver, and con-4 duct the vapor through the apertures of the upright copper cylinders and to be brought in contact with the person to be operated upon while seated in a sweat-box or chamber, so as to remove disease from the patient. By my apparatus I control the hot air or vapor in so ne and delicate a manner that it can be applied to the most sensitive parts of the human organization, such as the eye, ear, nose, mouth, or throat. The small square box or chamber at top is for the purpose of holding any medicated solution, the vapor of which passes out through the apertures along the sides near the top, and the patient thus receives amedicated bath at the' same time that he is receiving a hot-air or vapor bath. rIhe apparatus is intended to be placed under the seat or upon the floor of the sweat-box.
A represents the chamber or receiver, de-
signed to contain the hot air or vapor, and it is made of sheet metal, of an oval form, and air or steam tight. 'lhe hot air is supplied through the tube B, and forced upward through the upright tubes C' O, that are perforated and fastened to the bottom of the chamber A, and extend through the top, so as to effectually lspread the hot air or vapor in fine sprays Wherever required to be applied. The tubes or cylinders C U are made of copper, that they may retain the heat better than other sheet metal. The stop-cock D is for the purpose of removing any condensed vapor that might collect iu the chamber A. The small square chamber E at top is not air-tight, but perforated along its sides near to the top to eject the evaporation of the medicated solution, while the hot airor vapor in the larger chamber A causes heat enough to be communica'- ted to the small chamber, that the solution passes off its vapor freely and 'sufficiently for all the purposes desired.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is
The oval receiver A, containing the hot air vor vapor, with its upright perforated copper y cylinders `O O, and perforated square chamber E on the top, to contain anyr medicated solution, when combined, constructed, and operating as herein described, and for the purposes set forth. JOHN DAVENPORT.
