SAFETY POCKET-LOCK.
T0 all whom t may concern.' 1
Be it known that we, DAVID WEIssMAN and Linsen Rnrsnn, respectively a subject of the Czar of Russia and a citizen of the United States, and residing, respectively, at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, and New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve-` ments in Safety Pocket'Locks, of which the following is a. specification, such as will en- .v able those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices for locking the change or money pocket of a garment or a container of any kind or class in which valuablesare carried, and the object thereof is to provide a device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and efficient in use and which will not interfere with the use of the pocket or other pocket thereof in an open position and showingour invention applied thereto; s

Fig. 9 a transverse section on the line 9-9 of Fig. 8 and showing the method of attaching the separate parts ofthe lock device, as shown in Fig. 8, to a garment.
In Fig. l ofthe drawing, we have indih Fig. 6 but showand is madeupof separate parts c3 and c4 secured together by welding or in any other Specification of Letters Patent. Pat-@m1151501 MQW 21; 191% i Application filed J' anuary 16, 1917. Serial No. 142,617.
desired manner. The part c3 forming a con? ,A
veX back member, while the part ct forms a convex `front member. s
The'plate ol is provided with a centrallongitudinal lconcave-convex portion cl2 which extends approximately the full length of said plate and is adapted to receive the front convex portion ct of the plate c when the separate parts are placed together.
Mounted in the cylindrical portion c2 'of the plate c is an L-shaped blockehaving a rod e2 connected therewith, said rod extending through one end of the cylindrical portion c2 and being provided with a ring or eye e3 with which when the device is in" use is connected a chain, cord 0r tape e?, which is also connected with a button or other device f, as indicatedlin Fig. 1, and mounted on the rod e2 between ythe "head e and the end of the cylindrical portion c2 isv a coil spring g which serves'to move said block e inwardly, the extent ofthis move-` ment being limited by a stop e5 on the rod e as shown in Fig. 2. l
`Mounted centrally of the convex portion of the plate OZ is an L-shaped dog 7L which is adapted to operate in connection with the L-shaped block e, in the cylindrical portion c2 of the plate c, and said block `serves to lock the dog` in the-position shown in Fig. 2` against outward movement and to lock the separate plates c and d together, as` will be readily understoodp As shown in Figs. l to 6 inclusive, the plates c and d are secured to theseparate parts a3 and va4 of, the pocket by U-shaped pins c' and j. The pin i servingto secure the of said part Y and through apertures Z3 formed in ears d* on the end portions of the,
the top portion of the trousers, or other garment, and when the separate parts are secured; together, as shown in Fig. :2, to close the pocket, lehe pocket may be 'opened by p ullingonthe chain or'cord e* yto release the L-shap'ed block c from the dog 7L, and again Closed4 by snapping 01 Pressing the. Separate parts o'r plates ,0' and l together, thek dog 7L operating to move the L-shaped block e against the4 tension' of the 'spring g in this last Operation. t
l'ViZhe'I'rthe'separate parts c and d are secured-'together by the locking members', the concave portion d2, Will embrace the tubular portion 'c2 and' thus the parts will, be preventedf'from turning or moving relative to one another. By rea-sonl ofthis' construction thepocket Will betightly closed throughout substantially its entire length and there Will be. no openspaces between thetubular portion 02 land concave portion (Z2.
flisteadfof securing theplates c andr (l to the separatefpartsof the pocket 'by the pins f and j, Which form av detachable connection, lthe saine may be secnredf thereto by stitching vfrf rWhich purpose ly provide the edge portions of the separate plates @and (Z With a'iplurality offape'rtures '07,. and (t5 through Which'the threadfl@ for stitching saidplatesr tothe garment passes, as clearly indicated in Eig. 7, "in which` figure the plated islshown'secured to the garment.-
'In Fig, Sof the drawing, We have` shown ahothenk modified form of securing. the
plates@` Landiv d toA the garment Which consistsfin yproviding the edge'portions of said platesiwith'aplll'llity of prongsorprojections m, and in said figurevve have shown said. prongs orik projeetions on the plate cl.
the' peratidn oi.A attaching the plates with the. prongs or proj eetions m thereon', to the garment," said. prongs or projections are irstbent,` rightg anglesto the plates and forced through the vgarment and bent yin- AWVardl'y aisfshonin at in Figf) to'grasp the 'garment between the same andthe side portiony oi:l theI plates and in this Way. the plates arepermanentlly secured to the garmentand'held againsthaniy possible movemennen 'against detaehment therefrom;
"`While We have Vshovv'nf lour improvement applied/to the Vside poclret of a` pair of trousersA it Willv be `understood that the fsame may b'ensedfin connection with pockets of klindfior, class of' garments as Well as in connection vvgith` containers of vvarious kinds and classes, such as pooletbooks, bags and the like, the gist of our invention being a look device composed. of separate parts and lock mechanism in said parts'controlled by a device known to the owner or user only, and various changes in and modifications ofthe details of construction herein shown and deseribed may be made, Within the scope of the appended claims, Without departing from the spirit of our invention or sacrificing its advantages.` i y It Will be noted that the front part c4 of 'the cylindrical portion c2 of lthe plate c is provided with va central oblong aperture 0s through which the dog` l1, passes as will be readily understood.
Having fullyl 'described our invention,
whatJ` We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. ysaiet'y pocket lock comprising two independent oblong sheet metal parts adapted to be secured to the opposite walls of the pocket oi' a garment', one of said parts being provided With a longitudinal tubular portion in which is mounted a longitudinally movable spring-controlled lock device and the other part'being provided with a longitudinal concave-convex portion adapted to engage the tubular portion for preventing relative movement of the parts and having a lock device engaging member adapted to be passed into said longitudinal tubular portion and to engage the lock`device therein, said lock device being provided With a partivhich passes outwardly through one end of the said longitudinal tubular portion'and is movable therethrough and which'is also adapted to be passed outwardly through one part, of the pocket.`
Q. A safety'pocket lock, comprising two independent'parts adapted to be' secured to the opposite vvalls of the pocket of a garment, onelof said parts being provided with a convex portion' extending substantially the entire length y'of saidpart and provided With 'a locking member, and thelother part being provided With a longitudinally disposed concave'portionadapted to engage the convex portion of the other part for preventing relative, movement oi the parts, and a locking member proif'ided on the concave portion adapted to coperate with the lockJ ing member of the convex portion for closing said pocket.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as lour invention We have signed our naines in'presence of the subscribing witnesses this 13th day of' Jannary, 1917.
