ATTORNEYS JOHN A. SEBENIUS, 0F SHELTON, WASHINGTON.
BUTTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 191%.
Application filed November 8, 1917. Serial No. 200,904..
of Shelton, in the county of Mason and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in buttons, and has for its object to provide a button consisting of separable sections which may be arranged on opposite sides of the material to which the button is to be attached, and connected together through the said material.
In the drawings:
Fi ure 1 is a section throu h a iece of material provided with the improved button 2 is an enlarged vertical section through the button, with parts in section; Figs. 3 and 4 are similar views showing the parts of the button separated;
Fig. 5 is a bottom plan view of the outer section; and
Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the inner section.
In the present embodiment of the invention, the button consists of an outer section 1 and an inner section 2, and the inner section has a. threaded pin 3 secured at the center thereof and extending axially therefrom. This pin, as shown, has a pointed end 4;, and it is adapted to engage a central axially threaded opening 5 in the outer section 1. The inner section has a knurled periphery, as shown more particularly in Fig. 4, to facilitate the turning of the same. The outer section has an annular series of ratchet teeth 6 at its inner end, and the inner section has a similar series 7 encircling the pin. The teeth of the section 2 are inside the teeth of the section 1. It will be noted that the faces of the teeth of the sections which are perpendicular to the plane of the sections face fiopiesof this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Eatente.
in the same direction when the sections are connected and that the teeth of the section 1 have their inclined faces in the direction toward which the section is turned when the sections are connected.
In use, the inner section of the button is placed in the proper position, and the pointed end 4c of the pin 3 is forced through the material of the garment, as shown in Fig. 2. The outer section is now engaged with the pin and threaded tightly toward the in ner section, and the material of the garment is clamped firmly between the teeth 6 and 7 of the sections. The pin 3 should be of such length that the point 1 will not extend beyond the outer face of the button 1. Then the button sections are turned together as tightly as possible, there can be no possibility of accidental disengagement. At the same time, however, they may be released when desired.
I claim:
A button of the character specified, comprising inner and outer sections, the outer section having an axial internally threaded opening and the inner section having an axial threaded pin for engaging the opening and pointed at its end to be passed through the material to which the button is to be connected, the first named section having a concave recess encircling the opening at the face adjacent to the other section and said other section having teeth adapted to extend into the recess and to push a portion of the garment therein, the first named section having teeth outside of the teeth of the last named section, the teeth of the first named section having an inclined face in the direction toward which the section isturned when connecting the sections.
