My invention relates to an improved folding pocket game-board designed with particular reference to use by soldiers, the objcct being to produce at a low cost for manufacture, a simple, compact, convenient and indestructible pocket game-board.

With these ends in view, my invention consists in a folding pocket game-board having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In carrying out my invention as herein shown, I employ two corresponding flat, sheet-metal leaves 2 and 3 having their adjacent edges formed with interlocking knuckles 4 for the reception of a pintle 5 by means of which the two leaves are hinged together. It is designed that the inner faces of these leaves shall be marked off into the customary checks or squares of a checker-board, the alternating checks or squares (commonly colored red and black) to be distinguished from each other in any desired manner, as by painting or enameling, or special surfacing of the metal. It will be sufficient for all purposes of the game, to leave the squares 6 in the plain metal and to mark the alternating squares 7 by coloring or enameling them or by en aving or etching, or otherwise diflerentlating their surfaces, this forming no part of my invention.

The outer edges of the respective leaves Q and 3 are formed with trough-like 'semiclrcular checker-conta1ners 8 extendlng through the length of the leaves, parallel with each 'other,.closed at their ends and preferably made integral with the leaves though this is not in any way essential. When the leaves are folded upon each other, the said containers 8 register and form a tubular receptacle fora set of metal checkers 9, the two leaves being then looked together by means of the pivotal clips 10 applied to opposite points on the ends of one leaf and engaging corresponding points on the ends of the other leaf. When the board is opened, as shown in Fig. 2, the checkers will lie either in one or the other of the two checkercontainers. When the board is actually in use, the checkers not in place may be held in reserve in either of the containers or distributed between them both. The checkers, as shown, are made by striking up disks of sheet-metal into cup-like form, tapered and flanged. By tapering the cup-like portions of the checkers, I provide for nesting them, and also for crowning them, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, to form kings. The indi vidual checkers are necessarily so small, that unless frictionally held together when crowned, they would be diflicult to use, as the kings could not then be picked up as one piece, and as the jostling of the board would endanger the stability of the superimposed checkers forming the crowns. As shown, the checkers of the two groups, are distinguished from each other by coloring twelve of them black.

My improved gameboard, as a whole, is small, light, compact and convenient, and may be easily carried in the pocket or kit of a soldier.

While I have shown and described my im proved game-board as a checker-board, it is obvious that it might be used as a chessboard, as well as for a variety of other games of the same general type. Or, the inner faces of the leaves may be marked ed for difl'erent games, without altering the mechanical structure of the device. lit is also obvious that in place of flanged cup-like checkers, I may employ disks to be marked as chess-men or to be used as checkers. lln the use of the word men, therefore, I wish to be understood as covering any movable pieces to be used in playing games upon my improved folding pocket game-board.

" 4. A folding pocket game-board comprising' two leaves hinged together and each formed with a complementary semi-circular halfcontainer arranged to combine, on the folding of the leaves together, to form a closed tubular container providing storage for the men or pieces used in the game.

5. A game piece or checker adapted to be nested and to be crowned and consisting of a disk of sheet metal struck up into flanged tapering cup-like form.
