BLOOD-DRAINER FOR EMBALMING.
Application filed September 11, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Gnonon H. Hunsr, J12, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sumter, in the county of Sumter and State of South Carolina, have invented a new and Improved Blood-Drainer for Embalming, of which the following is a tull, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to the bloocbdraining process used in embalming dead bodies, and the invention has to deal particularly with a novel blood-draining device which has for its general object to enable the drawing off of blood from the veins or arteries with more case and satisfaction than can be accomplished with any other method in use today.
A more specific objectof the invention is the provision of a novel form of bottle having one or more valved tubes connected with its mouth at the top, and which tubes are adapted to be inserted in the veins or arteries of a corpse, and in the bottom of the bottle is a drain pipe having a trap therein and a valve, so that when the bottle, after being tilled with water, is opened by means of the valve in the drain pipe, a suction is produced through the tubes or conduits at the top, and consequently, as the water flows out, blood will be drawn into the bottle from the corpse without any danger of air entering the arteries or veins.
Vl ith such objects in view, and others which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be set forth with partucularity in the following description and claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawing the figure is a central vertical section of the blooddraining device.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a glass or other bottle which is molded with a basinshaped bottom 2 that has a drain out let 3 at which is formed a nipple st, and at the top of the bottle is a mouth 5 adapted to receive a stopper 6 through which extends one or more suction tubes 7 each having a cook or valve 8. To each tube may be attached a hose 9 that will have a nozzle which is inserted into a vein or artery. The bottle may be molded with a handle 10 at its top by which the bottle can be conveniently car- Specification of Letters Patent.

ried. Attached to the nipple -l is a piece of tubing 11 which is suitably shaped to form a trap, and connected with this tubing is a cock 12 which has in turn connected with it drain pipe 13 leading to a point of discharge.
In use, the bottle 1 is filled with water and the cooks or valves 8 and 12 are closed. The suction tubes 9 inserted in the punctured veins or arteries of the corpse, and when the valves 8 and 12 are opened, water will flow out of the bottle, and in flowing out a vacuum or suction will be produced whereby .the blood will be drawn into the bottle through the suction conduits 79. This forms an easy and convenient m hod tor to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1.. A portableblood-draining device. comprising a receptacle for containing a liquid and having openings at its top and bottom. a stopper closing the upper opening to hermetically seal the receptacle, a tube extend ing through the stopper and provided with a valve, and a conduit connected with the bottom opening and having a valve for controlling the outflow of liquid from the receptacle, whereby a vacuum is produced in the top of the receptacle to draw any blood. from the corpse.
2. A portable blood-draining device for embalmers, comprising a jug-like receptacle having a mouth and handle at its top and having a discharge opening at its bottom, a stopper in the said mouth, a tube extending through the stopper and through which blood is adapted to be drawn into the receptacle, and a tube connected with the opening in the. bottom of the receptacle for,
a suction is produced in the top of the receptacle.
3. A blooddrafiling-devicefor enibahners; comprising a receptacle, a plurality of tubes communicating With the top ofth'e recepta clefland each being adapted to be connected withahdeviceiinserted in the corpse, a valve for each tube, a drain conduit connected 1 With the bottom of the receptacle and in eluding a trap and awalve in the drain c0nduit,
