CLOTHES-RACK.
menace Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. June 2?, 1917. Serial No. 177,346.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER Born, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Salem,
in the county of Morton and Stateof North Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Racks, of which the following is a specification.
The-present invention relates generally to clothes driers, and more particularly to that class thereunder known as foldable clothes Furthermore, I contemplate the provision of a rack of the abovestated character embodying an extensible pivotally mounted auxiliary frame, the spaced side bars of said frame presenting channels in which are movably supported rollers adapted, when the frame is swung to assume a horizontal position, to be adjusted in the channels of the auxiliary frame, permitting the supporting of various articles of apparel.
With the above and other ob] ects 1n view,
the invention consists in the novel features,
details of construction and combination of parts which will hereinafter be more fully set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims. t
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the rack suspended from a suitable support and shown in a folded position;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the rack in an open position; v
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showmg the auxiliary frame in an extended position; and
Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on line H of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, the
rack as its entirety .is denoted by the chart a ent A r m 191 acter 5 and embodyinga main rectangular frame 6 including spacedparallelside rails 7 connected to one another through the medium of a lower cross rail 8 and an upper cross rail 9. Secured to the top surface of the upper cross rail9- is a pair of spaced screw eyes 10 whereby the device generally may be suspended from a suitable support A. 11 denotes a plurality of spaced hooks secured to the front face of the lower cross rail for supporting small articles of ap par-e1. Arranged above and in parallelism cured to the exterior face of the spaced side rails 7 through the medium of screws or the like fastening devices, indicated by the character 13 andthepurpose of this cross bar will be fully brought out as the description of the invention is proceeded with.
Supported within the main frame for vertical swinging movement is an auxiliary frame, indicated generally by the character 14 and preferably constructed of a pair of telescopically mounted channeled arms '15 embodying an inner section 16 and an outer i section 17. The inner extremities of the inner section 16 are pivotally secured to the of the-main frame, through the medium of a nut and bolt connection 18, passing transportingthe auxiliary frame at a point adjacent to the cross bar 12 and within the main frame 6 for vertical swinging movement, and upon the auxiliary frame assuming an open position, the inner sections 16 of the frame will repose upon the cross bar 12 and prevent any undue downward movement of said frame when subjected to the weight of the articles of apparel to be dried. Now assuming the frame is swung in a downward and outward direction and supported in a horizontal position, the channeled arms of the outer section are pulled outwardly until the proper extension of the auxiliary frame is obtained, after which the loosely mounted clothes supporting members 19, mounted in the channels of the outer section 16, are properly adjusted within the channels at suitable spaced intervals, to permit of the various articles of apparel to be dried to be hung thereon. These clothes supporting members entibody a plurality of 65 with the lower rail 8 is across bar 12, sei 0 confronting faces of the" spacedside rails 7 i i rollers having dove-tailed pintles 20 to conform to the cross sectional contour of the channels. arms of both the inner and outer sections are formed with contracted open ends 21,
provided by converging the side walls 22 of said arms in a direction toward the open ends thereof, consequently, the side walls of the ,outer section will frictionally engage with the walls of the inner section to sufiice in retaining the outer section, at all times in a proper adjusted position. The outermost roller23 of the clothes supporting members is stationarily secured to the free extremities of the channeled arms 15 ofisaid outer section through the medium of screws 24, and
resilient keeper 26 secured medially of the upper cross rail 9 of the main frame.
From the foregoing. description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of construction and the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates, and while I have described the principles of operation of the invention, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have-it understood that the device shown is'm'erely illustrative, and that such copies of this patent maybe obtained for In other words, the channeled r changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed as new, is
1. A foldable clothes drier embodying a main frame adapted to be suspended from a suitable support, an auxiliary frame pivotally mounted within the main frame for a vertical swinging movement, said auxiliary frame comprising a plurality of telescopically mounted sections, and a plurality of clothes supporting members slidably mounted in one of the sections of the auxiliary frame.
2. A foldable clothes drier embodying a main frame adapted to be suspended from a suitable support, an auxiliary frame pivotally mounted within the main frame for a vertical swinging movement, said auxiliary frame comprising a plurality of telescopically mounted sections, and a plurality of clothes supporting members movably mounted in one of the sections of the auxiliary frame, and means secured to the main frame with which the clothes supporting members engage and adapted to hold the auxiliary frame and clothes supporting members in collapsed form.
3. A foldable clothes drier embodying a main frame, an extensible channeled auxiliary frame pivotally connected within the main frame, a plurality of clothes supporting members slidably mounted in the channels of the auxiliary frame and means on the main frame with which the clothes supporting members engage upon the swinging of the auxiliary frame to a closed position for supporting both the latter and former in collapsed position.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
