Be it known that l, MA'r'rIn linNnoiorr, a citizen of the vUnited States of America, residing at Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Sanitary Container-Caps, of which the follown ing is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying"drawing.
This invention relates to a sanitary con tainer cap and has for its principal object the production of a cap which is provided with a flap valve which will be normally closed when the jar is inoperative.
Another object of this invention is the production of a cap provided with a l'lap valve which will be closed when the jar is in a vertical position and will autoinaticallyA open when the jar is tilted.
Another object of this invention is the production of a flap valve which may be readily .detached from and attached to the C51 1With these and other objects in view this invention consists in general of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

By referring to the drawings by numerals it Will be seen that 1 designates a glass jar which is provided with the threaded'neck 2. Upon this threaded neck 2 is mounted the cap 3 which is provided With the threaded flange 4 and the top plate portion 5.
rlhe top plate portion 5 is provided with the elongated slot 6 which is adapted to receive the flap valve 7. This flap valve 7 comcap 3 also cardevice may be held upon the inner face of the top portion 5 by means of the rivets 17 as is clearly shown in Fig. 2.
rFhe cap 3 is provided With a circular aperture in Which is fitted the spout 18. llt will be seen by referring to Fig. 2 that the lip portion 8 0f the Hap valve is adapted to fit over this spout and will normally retain this position when the longitudinal axis of the jar is in a. vertical position because the lip portion 8 and the slanting portion 7 are adapted to counterbalance the tail portion l1 and the curl l2.
lt will of course be understood that the bolt plate 14 passes through the aperture 13 and acts as a pivot for the flap valve. lt will beseenthatthis bolt plate may bereadily disengaged from the flap valve so that the same may be separated from the cap and be thoroughly cleansed if so desired.
By referring to Fig. 1 it will be seen that when the jar is in its normal position the lip 8 covers the spout 18 in such a manner as to keep out dust, flies, etc., and that When it is desired to pour out the contents of the bottle the same may be tilted so as to take the position shown in Fig. 7. When the bottle 1s tilted in this manner it Will be seen that since the lip and slanting portion of the flap valve counterbalance the tail and curl, the lip will be out of engagement with the spout and allow the contents of the bottle to flow freely therefrom.
What is claimed is In a device of the class described the combination, of a cap with a flap valve, a spout extending from said cap, said flap valve pivotally mount/ed upon said cap and provided with u lip portion adapted to extend Over Suid SpOut und u. tail portion adapted to counterbulance said lip portion, u bolt plate slidably mounted upon the in- 5 ner face of said cap, Suid bolt plate provided with n. longitudinal slot, lrivets adapted to pass through the top of said cap and through said longitudinal slot, und said bolt plate adapted to pass through un elongated opening in Suid flap vulve so as to pivotnlly 10 und defuchubly hold Suid flap vulve.
