with a loracket 19 rigidly secured to the section 13. The inner end of the bracket 19 is slightly curved in correspondence with the curved end 20 of the median section 14.

The end of the hrace section 17 opposite to that attached to the bracket 19, is pivotally connected to a sliding loop 21. The loop 21 moves lengthwise of the median section 14. The pin 22 which secures the brace section 17 to the loop 21, also holds pivotally connected with the said loop, a short arm 23.

As seen best in Fig. 4 of the drawings, the arm. 23 has an Offset 24, the end whereof is pivoted by means of a pin 25, to a bifurcated oflset 26 inte rrally formed with the brace section 27. The section 27 is pivotally mounted in a Crown ring 28, said ring being shaped in conformity with the Crown ring 29, to which the inner section 12 of the ninlorella ril) is pivotally attached. The means for attaching the lorace 27 and the section 12 to their respective Crown ring, is that employed in the usual construction of umbrellas.

To steadythe construction and more particularly the outer terminal of the section 12, a spreader hrace 30 is pivotally secured to the section 12 and to a brackct 31 mounted on the brace section 27.

The Crown rings 28, 29 and 32 are fixedly mounted on tuhular sections 33 and 34 and the sleeve 35. The sections 33 and 34 are telescopically united, the sleeve 35 being slidably mounted on the section 33 and supported and guided in its movement thereon hy a pin 36 and a slot 37 formed in said section 33.

The sleeve 35 is operatively connected with the hrace section 27 by spreading rods 38. The rods 38 are each pivotally connected with a fiXed clip 39 On the section 27.

The tuloular section 33 at the lower end, hasa screw-threaded section 40, the threads whereof register with threads formed .in the end of the cane 41, which has a handle 42. The combined length of the cane 11 and handle -12 equals the comhined length of the tuhular sections 33 and 34: when the same are folded to the position shown in Fi e. 5

To place the nmbrella in service, the cane 411 ispreliminarily secured to' the tubnlar section33. dle 42 in one hand, with the other hand moves the sleeve 35 outward along the sleeve 33, being guided in its movement by the slot 37. Nhen the sleeve is raised to the upper end of the slot 37, the pin 36 passes around the hook end 44 and rests in the depressed end 35 of said hook end.

When it s desired to lower the umbrella, the sleeve 35 is manipulated to lift the pin 36 out of the depressed end of the slot 37. The sleeve is then drawn down on the, section 33 until the pin 36 is disposed at the lower end of the slot 37. During this movement, it will be noted that the rod 33 depresses the outer end of the brace seetion 27, so that the tnbular section 31- is depressed and the various parts of the ribs and brace construction are drawn to the position shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings.
