To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. MANAHAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Flag-Illuminating Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a device for illuminating a flag or pennant and it is essen tially adapted for attachment to a motor vehicle.

The invention is designed to provide a lamp with means for mounting a flag, and a device for projecting the light from the lamp onto a waving flag while the vehicle is in motion.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple and eflicient device combinin a lamp with a holder which can be rea y mounted on the radiator or wind shield of an automobile.

The novel features of the invention are more fully described in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:

Figure 1 represents a front elevation showing the device attached to the front portion of a radiator.

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the Fig. 3 is a front view showing on a larger scale.

Fig. 4 is a plan view of the same.

In this drawing, the letter a lamp casing which is rovided with a small incandescent electric light a mounted in the casing. A flag holder f is preferably located at the forward portion of the casing, and a screw 9 prevents withdrawal of a flag pole h when inserted in the holder or socket thereof.

The devices for securing the lamp to'an object include a swinging member '5 which serves as a support for mounting the lamp casing as shown. The member a? is swingingly pivoted at to a pair of springy clamping members 70 made to encircle a mouth or neck at the forward top portion of a radiator as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. To one end of the clamping members is secured same. the device casing and made a latch harm for engagement with recesses n for filling the designates a formed in the lower bifurcated part of the swinging support.

It will be seen, that when the swinging support is in engagement with the latch bar, the lamp casing will be firmly fixed to the radiator mouth. But when it is desired to fill the radiator, the swinging support can be snappedout of engagement with the latch bar and operated to swing out of the way, as indicated by the .dotted lines in Fig. 3, so that the cap can be removed from the mouth 4 radiator. When the flag is in position with the vehicle in motion, the light from the top lens will strike the flag on both of its sides giving it a radiant, luminous appearance.

I claim I. In a flag illuminating device, the combination with a pair of clamping members to engage an ob ect, of a lamp casing extending over the object pivotally connected to the members, made to swing out of the way of the object, the casin having means for projecting a light upwar l ,and a holder carried by the casing.

2. Ina flag illuminating device, the combination wit a pair of springy clamping members to engage an object, of a lamp casing pivotally connected to the clamps, the casing having means for projecting a light upwardly, and a holder located at the front of the casing.

3. In a fia illuminating device, the combination wit a pair of springy clamping members made to embrace an object, of a lamp casing pivotally connected between the members, t e casing having a lens for projecting a light upwardly, and a holder located at the front of the casing for receiving a pole.

l. In a flag illuminating device, the combination with a lamp casing, of a holder carried by the casing for mounting a flag, means for clamping the casing to an object, a sup port for the casing swmgingly connected to the clamping means, the support to the clamping means.
