GAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 16, 1918.
Application filed June 6, 1917. Serial No. 173,223.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Nns'ron E. GAoNoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lawrence, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to games or puzzles of the type which comprises a box which can be held in the hand and contains movable bodies Which by dexterous manipulation can be caused to assume certain required relations to each other and to the box or 4 container.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective of the preferred form of my device. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail showing the desired position of the parts. Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation similar to Fig. 2 of a modification. Fig. 5 is a partial plan view of another modification.
A represents a rectangular box with sides 10, 11, 12, 13, a transparent top 14, and a bottom 15 which is substantially flat. On the bottom 15 is a central mound 16 which is shown as hemispherical and has at its top a depression 17, which is substantially hemispherical.
I prefer to also provide at each corner the depressions 18, which serve as obstructions.
In the box is also a movable solid covering member 21, which is of substantially hemispherical form with flat side and a curved side in the center of which is a depression 22, of such size as to fit over the part of ball 20, which will project from depression 17 when the ball rests therein in the manner shown in Fig. 3.
The object is to clear the ball from the obstructions 18, to get it into depression 17, and to then cover it by moving covering member 21 up on to mound 16 with its depression 22 fitting over ball 20.
In Fig. 4, the box B has sides and a top like box A, but its bottom 30 has obstructions 18 and also obstructions in the form of pegs 32 and instead of a depression on a mound, has a depression 33 into which the ball 20 is to be rolled and covered by member 21.
In Fig. 5, box C has a top'and sides similar to box A and a bottom 40 with a central mound 16 with depression 17 and also depressions 18, pins 32, and strips of sandpaper 42 which serve as additional obstructions to the movements of ball 20 and covering member 21.
To add to the interest of the puzzle, a map or landscape may be drawn on the bottom, and the various obstructions may be incorporated therein as shown in Fig. 5.
I claim 1. A game which comprises a box with a bottom with a depression therein, a ball adapted to fit in such depression and to project therefrom, and a solid covering member of substantially hemispherical form with a depression in the center of its curved side of such size as to fit over the part of the ball which projects from such depression.
2. A game which comprises a box with a bottom having a mound Which rises there from with a depression therein, a ball adapted to fit in such depression and to project therefrom, and a solid covering member of substantially hemispherical form with a depression in the center of its curved side of such size as to fit over the part of the ball which projects from such depression.
3. A game which comprises a box witha bottom having obstructions and with a depression therein, a ball adapted to fit in such depression and to project therefrom, and a solid covering member of substantially hemispherical form with a depression in the center of its curved side of such size as to fit over the part of the ball which pro jects from such depression.
4. A game which comprises a box with a bottom having obstructions and a mound which rises therefrom with a depression therein, a ball adapted to fit in such depression and to project therefrom, and asolid covering member of substantially hemi spherical form with a depression in the center of its curved side of such size as to fit over the part of the ball which projects from such depression.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
NESTOR E. GAGNON. Witness:
HARRY R. LAWRENCE.
