The device forming the subject matter of this application is adapted to be used in hospitals' and elsewhere by surgeons to con- One object of the invention is to improve the construction of the body portion of the container, and another object of the invention is so to construct the device that the same, at the will of an operator, may be placed upon a table or be mounted on a wall.

It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.

lith the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described' and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The device forming the subject matter of this application includes a tubular body 1 fashioned from a strip of metal having itsV longitudinal edges spaced apart to define a delivery slot 2 through which the cotton within the body 1 may be drawn. One of the longitudinal edges of the strip out of which the body 1 is made is bent upon itself to form a reinforcing bead 3, and the other longitudinal edge of the strip is bent upon itself to form outstanding teeth 4,

Mounted on the other end of the body 1 is aj removable closure 6 including a flange 7 surrounding said end of the body. rthe body 1 is resilient and slightly` eXpans`ible,and consequently, the aforesaid end oft the body maintains a frictional hold on the flange 7, thereby to keepl thel closure fixed in place.

The invention comprises aV pair of standards 8 having' notches 9 in which the body 1 is secured. The slot 2 is located inthe forward face of the body, the standards 8 being assembled with the rear portion of the body. The standards 8 are supplied at their rear ends with laterally projecting feet 10.

The numeral 11 denotes a pair of brackets, preferably in the form of strips, adapted to be mounted on a wall or a vertical support of any other desired kind. Each of the brackets 11 is bent inwardly along one edge to form a reinforcing bead 12, and is bent inwardly along its opposite edge to form a guide Harige 14, the lower end of the guide fiange 14 being extended rearwardly to form a stop 15.

In practical operation, the brackets 11 may be assembled with a wall or other vertical support, and then the feet 10 of the .standards 8 may be slipped downwardly into the brackets, behind the guide anges 14e, the feet of the brackets engaging with the stops 15 to limit the downward movement of the container. If desired, however, the container may be disconnected from the brackets 11, the structure being' supported on the table or other horizontal object, the standards 8 acting as legs, and the feet 10 coacting with the table. r1`he body 1 is supplied with a handle 16 whereby the container may be carried readily from place to place.

rlhe standards 8 serve to prevent an undue circumferential expansion of the body 1 when the cotton is pulled outwardly through the slot 2 and severed across the teeth d, this function flowing from the fact that the body 1 is seated in the notches 9 of the standards 8. The standards 8, further, serve to space the body 1 from a 'support of any kind, whereby the removable closure 6 may be mounted on the end of thebody and be removed therefrom.

The device preferably but not necessarily is fashioned from metal.

' Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A cotton container comprising a body fashioned from a strip of material disposed in tubular form and having its longitudinal edges spaced apart to fashion a delivery slot at the front of the container, one of said edges being provided with forwardly presented severing teeth; a closure for one end of the body; a removable closure for the other end of the body and having a flange surrounding the body, the slot serving to give said other end of the body resiliency whereby said end of the body will grip the flange;

Copies of this patent may 'be obtained for five and a pair of standards having notches wherein the rear portion of the body is secured, the standards being spaced from the ends of the body and having laterally projecting feet, the standards serving to prevent an undue circumferential expansion of the body when the cotton is severed across the teeth, and serving to space the body from a support, whereby the removable closure may be mounted on the body and be removed therefrom.
