IEQUN'I DOME, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-THIRD TO ALIFOENIA, AND ONE-THIRD TO ANDREW COMBINED ORE AND ROCK CRUSHER AND PULVERIZER.
1,262,691, Specification of Application filed July 23, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMER G. PRATT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Dome, in the county of Siskiyou and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Ore and Rock Crushers and Pulverizers, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention pertains to ore crushing machines, and has for one of its objects the provision of a machine which while simple in construction is highly efficient in operation and is well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which machines of analogous character are ordinarily subjected.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a combined ore crusher and pulverizer of large capacity, and adapted to be expeditiously and easily adjusted to meet different conditions.
Another object is the provision of a machine of the character indicated provided with auxiliary means for pulverizing the material to a still greater extent after the material has passed between the cone and the shell or cylinder of the machine.
Another object is the provision of im proved means for actuating the cone incidental to the rotation of the cylinder.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claims when the same are read in connection with the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a view, partly in elevation and partly in diametrical section of a machine constructed in accordance with my present invention.
Fig. 2 is an elevation, with parts in vertical section, and other parts broken away, taken at right angles to Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a plan view, on a reduced scale, of the machine, and:
Fig. 4 is a detail horizontal section showing the diagonal arrangement of the lower bearing bar between two of the frame uprights.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
i The frameof the machine comprises four uprights 1, of angular form in cross section,
' cushion 29, of rubber or Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 9, 1918 Serial No. 182,215.
designed to be fixed at their lower ends to a suitable base, and a top section 2, interposed between and suitably fixed with respect to the uprights 1, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
J ournaled in suitable bearings 3 on the top section 2 of the frame is a drive shaft 4t, equipped with pulleys 5, either or both of which may be connected through belts with a suitable motor. The said shaft 4; is also Pl'OVlCiQLL with a sprocket gear 6, a beveled gear 7 and an eccentric 8, the latter being illustrated in Fig. 2.
Arranged between and suitably iixed to the frame uprights 1, at intermediate points in the height thereof, are rings 9 and 10, and disposed and rotatable within the said rings is the upright cylinder 11 which is provided with a suitable lining 12 and breakers 13 thereon. The said cylinder is supported on anti-friction bearings 14, preferably balls as shown, which are interposed etween circumferential projections 15 thereon and the before described rings 10. At 16 the cylinder 11 is equipped with a spur-gear annulus V which is meshed with a pinion 17 on an upright counter shaft 18 which has a beveled pinion 19 at its upper end, intermeshed with the beveled pinion 7 on the shaft 1, to effect rotation of the cylinder from said shaft 1.
The location of the counter shaft 18 in plan is closely shown in Fig. 3, and by comparison of Figs. 1 and 3, it will be readily understood that the pinion 17 is arranged partly in front of the toothed annulus 16.
The lower bearing bar 20 is movable vertically between two diagonally-opposite frame uprights 1, and is provided with a central cup 21, also with threaded apertures 22, the latter to receive and engage the threads on the vertical adjusting shafts 23 which are journaled in the lower ring 10 and have hand wheels 24, superimposed on said ring 10 so as to enable the shafts to suspend the bearing bar 20 and the load carried thereby. I
At 25 is an upright central shaft which does not revolve, and fixed to said shaftand disposed in the cylinder is a cone 26, having breakers 27 The said shaft 25 is supported in the cup 21 of bearing bar 20 and on a section 01' steel 28, superimposed on a rubber composition. From this it follows that when the vertical ad usting shafts 23 are rotated the bar 20,.
the shaft 25 and the cone 26 will be raised or lowered to nicely adjust the latter with respect to thecylinder 11 as conditions require. The upper end portion of the shaft is angular, preferably rectangular, in cross-section and is disposed in a correspondingly-shaped opening in a reciprocatory bar 30 which is pivotally connected at 31 to an arm 32 carried by a strap 33 that mounted on and actuated by the strap 8. T ius when the shaft t is rotated to rotate the cylinder 11 about its axis, the shaft 25 and the cone 26 thereon will be oscillated or swung to and fro in a vertical plane with a view to furthering the crushing and pulverizing of the ore and the progress of the same through the machine between the cone and the cylinder. I
Brackets lO are fixed on the top frame section 2 and made to extend laterally from the upper portion of the frame, and connected throu h swinging links with he said brackets is a feed trough +22, the inner discharge end of which is connected through a link 43 with the bar 30, and hence when the shaft :25 and the cone 26 are reciprocated the trough 42 will also be reciprocated to accelerate the feed of ore placed therein between the cylinder and the cone at the upper ends thereof.
At 50 is a receptacle disposed to receive the crushed ore from between the lower ends of the cylinder and cone, and communicating with and extending laterally from the said receptacle is a chute 51 which is de signed to conduct the crushed and pulverized ore to rolls 52, 53 for further pulverization.
he bearings of the roll 53 are preferably cushioned by blocks 54, of rubber composition, and the roll 52 is driven from the shaft a through the medium of the sprocket gear 6 thereon, a sprocket gear fixed with respect to said roll 52, and a sprocket belt 55 con necting the said sprocket gears.
It will be gathered from the foregoing that an important advantage of my novel machine resides in the compactness and durability thereof.
Having described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
