Description
F. J. MITTELSTADT.
SEPARABLLRESILIENT FASTENING DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED FEB.2.1917- Patented Apr. 2,1918.
FREDERICK J. MI'ITELS'IADT, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
SEPARABLE, RESILIENT FASTENING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 2, 1918.
Application filed February 2, 1917. Serial No. 146,216.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK J. Mrr'rnn- STADT, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in separable, Resilient Fastening Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Ihis invention relates to new and useful improvements in resilient, separable fasteners, designed as a convenient means for fastening the meeting edges of flaps of shirts, gloves and garments of various kinds and consists in the provision of a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical, central sectional view through the fastening devices connected together.
Fig. 2 is a face view of one of the socket fasteners.
Fig. 3 is a reverse view of the plate shown in Fig. 2.
Fig. l is a face view of a stud upon the other fastener.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A designates a plate having a reetangularly outlined recess G with one end open, the top R of the recess having an elongated slot N, the outer edges of which merge into beveled ends N of the top of the recess. The plate A is provided with an integral resilient tongue D'conforming in outline to the shape of the slot and said beveled ends of the recess, and positioned parallel to the top of the recess. Said tongue projects a slight distance beyond the inner end of the slot, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings by dotted lines, and has upon its face adjacent to its end a lug E. A button F has a stud H proj eating therefrom having a head H, the end of which has an indenture I formed therein adapted to receive the lug E.
In putting the parts of the fastener together, the end of the head upon the stud is placed against the face of the tongue having said lug and the stud is pushed into the slot and when the stud comes against the lug further pushing in upon the button will cause the tongue to yield and when the lug comes in alinement with the indenture in the stud the tongue will spring back and the lug engage the indenture, thus holding the parts together. A reverse outward pushing movement upon the button will cause the tongue to yield and the parts may be disconnected.
What I claim to be new is A. separable resilient fastening device for shirts, gloves, etc., comprising a plate with a rectangular outlined recess formed therein, on end of the recess being open, the top of the recess having a slot formed therein the outer marginal edges of which merge into beveled ends of the top at the end of the recess, said plate having a resilient tongue positioned parallel to the top of the recess and conforming in outline to the shape of the slot and said beveled ends of the top, the free end of the tongue extending slightly beyond the end of the slot and provided with a laterally projecting lug near its free end, a button having a stud with a head provided with an indenture in its end, said head of the stud adapted to engage the bottom of the recess on either side of said slot and th indenture adapted to receive the lug when the stud is in contact with the inner end of the slot.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK J. MITTELSTADT.
