Application aiea November 1a, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Eva PHILLIPS, a citizen of the United States, residing at iii lissoula, in the county of Missoula and State of ltlontana, have invented ertain new and useful, Improvements in lititchen-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to kitchen cabinets, and more particularly to a cabinet oft-his character which can be readily and easily folded or collapsed for storage, moving, or shipping. r V
The invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more. fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In the drawings: 7
Figure l is a perspective view of a cabinet constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the cabinet folded for shipment.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Fig. l is a transverse sectional view.
Fig. 5 is a front elevation showing a cabi net folded, and
Fig. 6 is an cabinet folded.
The improved cabinet comprises a base structure, which base structure comprises a baseboard 1, end pieces 2, front and rear side pieces 3, and legs 4 which are hingedly connected to the under face of the baseboard for folding relation therewith, the side pieces 3 having recessed portions 5 formed therein for a purpose which will subsequently appear.
The cabinet proper comprises a rear wall 6 which is hingedly connected with the rear piece or base-board 3, of the base SiZIUClSillQ, as at 7 end walls 8, and 9, which are hingedly connected with the end pieces or boards 2, as at 10 and 11, respectively; and the end elevation showing the front wall 12, which is hingedly connected to the front piece or board 3 of the base structure, as at 13; the front and rear walls being normally held in rigid engagement with the end walls by means of screws 1%.
A top 15 is'detachably hinged with the rear wall 6 as at 16, and is provided with sliding leaves 17 which are slidably engaged in brackets 18 upon the underface of the top, and extend through recesses 19 formed in the front wall 12.
end pieces of Apr, 2, Serial No. 872,983.
spacing of the interior of the cabinet into compartments, and these partitions are engaged in recesses formed in the upper face of the ba eboard 1 in order to provide for the rigidity of the same.
By reference to the drawings it will be seen that upon removing the pintles ot' the hinges 16 moved, also, by removing the screws 1-l-v it will be seen tha t the end walls may be folded down upon the baseboard 1, and the front and rear walls may be folded upon the end walls. The legsmay be folded upon the underface of the baseboard, and by inverting the top the collapsed major portion of the cabinet may be placed on said top in order to form a compact bundle, the slides 17 being adapted to rest within the recesses 5 cut in the side walls of the frame structure, while the upturned legs are inclosed between the thus transposed top and the base-board or floor of the cabinet.
If desired, doors 20 may be provided for the front of the cabinet in order to provide access to any of the compartments therein.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that the construction and operation of the device will be clearly understood, and while 1 have herein shown and described one specific form of my invention, 1 do not wish to be limited thereto, except for such limitations as the claims may import.
I claim 1. A kitchen cabinet, comprising a base board, legs hingedly connected to the base board to fold against the underside thereof, end walls hinged about in line with the top of the base board to fold thereon, side pieces projecting above and below the base board, front and rear walls hinged to the side pieces to fold on the end walls, partitions stepped in recesses in the top of the base board, and
a top detachably hinged to the rear wall.
2. A, collapsible kitchen cabinet comprising a base structure, said base structure com prising a baseboard, end pieces secured to said base board, side pieces secured to said baseboard, one of said side pieces having recesses therein, front, and rear and end walls hingedly mounted on the respective side and the base structure, a top dc tachably mounted on said rear wall partitions attachable on said baseboard, and 6X- tension pieces slidably engaged with the unthe top'may be readily re deriace of the top and removable therewith, said extension pieces adapted to rest within the said recesses when the cabinet is in a collapsed condition,
3. In a collapsible kitchen-cabinet, the combination of a baseboard, side pieces and end pieces aiiixed to said base-board in such relation as to project to a level below the level of the under surface of said base-board and form an inclosure, said side pieces being cut out on their respective lower edges, side walls hingedly connected to said side pieces, end walls hingedly connected to said end pieces, a cover adapted to be positioned on the upper edges of said side walls and end avails, extensible leaves carried by said cover, and legs connected with and supporting said base, said legs being itoldable upward w1th-v in said inclosure and against said base-board, said leaves being seated in the out out portions of said side pieces when the kitchencabinet is folded, thereby confining said legs between said base-board and said leaves.
4:. A collapsible kitchen-cabinet compris- Gopies of this patent ing a floor, legs hingedly mounted to fold 25 up against said floor, side-boards and enclboards secured to the respective sides and ends of the floor and extending above the latter and also extending below the latter suiiiciently to inclose the legs when said legs 30 are folded up, side and end Wall members mounted on the respective side-boards and end-boards and foldable over said floor in superposed position, a cover removably secured normally on top of said side and end 35 wall members, and an extensible leaf niovably secured to said cover and removable therewith and adapted to be inclosed by the lower portion of said boards while. said cover is in a transposed position in which 4 the lower edges of said boards rest upon said cover, when said cabinet is collapsed.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
