WASHBOILER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 12, 1918.
Application led March 24, 1917. Serial No. 157,119.
T0 all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, IGNACY CERPIAL, a subject of the Czar of Russia, resident ot' South Bend, county of St. Joseph, and State ot Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washboilers, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to improvements in domestic wash boilers, and has as its special object the provision of means in which clothes may be thoroughly boiled and brought into contact with cleansing solutions vcontained in the boiler without danger of scorching and without the escape of steam into the apartment.
A further object of the invention 'is to provide means combined with the boiler which permit of a thorough cleansing of the interior, whereby any accumulations may be removed. i
These and other like objects are attaine by the novel construction and combination ot' parts hereafter' described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken through the center of the boiler.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, and
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The invention comprises anexterior cylindrical casing 10 having attached thereto a bottom plate 11 and provided with handles 13 and a wire beading 12 around its top edge.
An arcuate cover 14 having extending annular edges 15 is adapted to rest upon the beading 12 and has formed with it a cylindrical extension 16, the same being adapted to lit closely within the walls 10 of the boiler.
Transversely disposed between the handles 17 on the top of the arcuate cover 14 is a cup l shaped vessel 18 through the center of which extends a valve 19 having a control handle 20 by which it may be operated, the lower side of the valve being engaged with a square tubular projection 22 adapted to eX- tendk downwardly within the boiler 10.
A circular plate 25 is disposed within the boiler 10, resting upon annular hanged edges 26, the plate having a plurality of ne perforations 27 formed through it so that the water contained in the chamber below the plate 25V can readily pass therethrough and mingle with the clothing disposed on it.`
Secured centrally ot the perforate plate 25 is a hollow cone 28, its upper end extending nearly to the top edge of the boiler 10, and containing a square opening receptive ot' the stem 22 by which the plate and cover are relatively located.
Should an excess of pressure arise within the cone 28, it may pass outward through the passage within the square extension 22 when the valve 19 is opened.
In operation, the plate 27 being placed in position, the clothes are laid uniformly within the annular space contained between the cone 28 and interior walls 10 of the wash boiler, the cover 14 being applied in position. If it be desired to move the clothes so as to increase the circulation of the boiling water, the cover 14 may bel rotated with ret'- erence to the casing 10, whereby moving they clothes to be washed is effected, and it will be noticed that all excess or overflow from the square tube 22 is received within the cup 18 from whence it can be readily disposed.
It will be further evident that loosened particles from the soiled garments, together with any solid, heavy material, will pass through the perforations in the plate 25 into the chamber below it and that the same are readily removed by raising the cone and attached plate.
I claim In a boiler of the class described, the combination with a cylindrical vessel, a per- ;torate plate supported therein, means permitting the withdrawal of said plate, said means consisting of a hollow cone having a square opening in its upper point, an arcuate cover fitted to said vessel having a portion engageable within the walls thereof, a cup secured centrally of said cover, a hollow square stem aiiiXed in said cup and cover, said stem extending into the opening in the top of said cone, and means for opening or closing the passage through said extension.
In testimony whereof I have atxed my signature.
IGNACY CERPIAL.
