My invention relates particularlyto metallic corner beads of the so-called clip type.
One object is to provide a construction which can be manufactured economically.
Another object is to provide a construction which is strong'and afi'ords a good clench Another object clips can bereadilyassembled with the bead proper and adjusted to the desired position and held securely in place.
The inventionconsists of a bead proper wit-h attaching clips, the bead and clips being specially constructed for manufacture and attachment as hereinafter set forth.

head and the throat is a passage 14 and in rear of the throat is a mouth 15. The extreme rear edges may be curled or flanged outwardly as at 16'to give additional rigid ity if desired. The bending in of the sides forms exterior grooves 17, 17 for the plaster with exterior shoulders such as 18 to prevent the plaster from falling out. The interior shoulders such as 19 and the inner Walls of the sides 12 afford gripping and bearing surfaces for the clips.
Each clip is preferably formed of a straight strip of metal bent in the middle so as to form arms 20, 20 for attachment to the corner. The angle 21 of the clip is adapted to fit snugly up into the mouth 15' of the bead proper but without extending into the passage 14. The clip is provided with one or more fingers preferably two such as 22, 22 as shown .in Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive. cutting and bending portions of the edges of the strip at its middle portion as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. The strip is then bent at the center along the line X, X to an acute angle substantially as shown in Fig. 2. This causes the two fingers to extend outward as shown in Figs l, 2 and 6. The main portions of the fingers are then in a common vertical plane and the tips 23, 23 extend in opposite directions,
The. throat 13 is preferably made just slightly wider than the thickness of the metal of the strip, which provides a mini- .mum opening of the mouth and a-ordsa maximum depth of the shoulder 18 to prevent the chipping out of the plaster. The tips 23, 23 engage in front ofthe shoulders 19, 19so as to hold the clip against the bead proper with itg angle 21 snugly in the mouth 15. The angle of the mouth 15 between the sides 12, 12 is preferably an acute angle and slightly greater than the angle v20, 20. preferably made wide enough toextend back over the corner 24; of the support to which plaster or for the use of nails or attaching wires if desired. The arms of the clips are also provided with holes such as 27, 27 for nails or attaching wires.
The clip thus far described may be cheaply made from strips by cutting and forming the fingers as shown in Figs. 4 and 5 by means of suitable dies. The clip may be packed and shipped in this form and may be readily bent into shape for assembling by simply bending it along the lineX, X which brings the .fingers and tips at exactly the right angle for fittin within the mouth and throat and passage 0% the bead proper or the clips may be bent into angular form before shipment if desired.
In addition to the frictional engagement for preventing relative longitudinal movement of the clips'in the bead, the corner of the clip may be bent out slightly as at 30 in Fig. 1. or as at 31 in Fig. 6 to extend into one of the openings in the side of the bead.
Instead. of forming the fingers of the clip from the edges of the strip as previously described, they may be formed from the interior portions as shown at 32, 32 in Fig. 7.
Attachment may also be made by means of a single finger such as 33 with one or more lateral tips such as 34, 34, as shown in Fi 8.

where the finger 35 is provided with a single tip 36 bent to'fit in the passage 14; of the bead proper.
In the form shown in Fig. 10 thearms 37 and 38 are formed by splitting a strip of double width but leaving the two arms attached at 39 which constitutes the finger portion. In this casethe tips 40, 40 are bent laterally from the finger portion for fitting in the passage 14 of the bead roper.
In all of t may ese forms it will e noted that I the construction of the finger portion or portions is such that it is only necessary to make the throat 13 of a slightly greater width than the thickness of the metal of which the clip is formed. The clips may be readily assembled but are securely held in osition.
What I claim is 1. A corner bead comprising, the combination of a strip doubled along its middle portion to forma head with rearwardly and outwardly extending sides bent inwardly toward each other immediately back of the head to form interior-and exterior shoulders and a narrow throat, said sides havin openings therein, together with a clip %ormed from a strip bent angularly at its center to fit within said mouth between the inner walls of said sides and provided with a finger extending outwardly from the angular portion of a single thickness of metal and provided with a laterally extending tip portion extending into said passage in front of one of said interior shoulders, said clip havin g a portion bent slightly outward adjacent said finger for engagement with one of said openings.

A corner bead clip blank comprising a strip, the main portion of which is substantially fiat and having two fingers at opposite sides of its central portion formed by cutting the strip transversely and longitudinally, said fingers being joined to the body of the strip on the central transverse line and somewhat ofi'set from the main portion and one and the other finger pointing toward the other end of the strip, whereby the strip is weakest at its central point on a line with the bases of said fingers so that said strip be bent by hand and the bending will cause the free ends of said fingers to project and form shoulders for holding the clip in connection with a bead. i
