To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, Nelson E. Tnnns'ron, a citizen of the United States, residing at Niagara Falls, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar- Buttons, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in collar buttons and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of thi character with positive locking means for holding the collar on the shirt.

Anothe object of the invention is to provide spring means for holding one of the members of the button to another member thereof. p

Another object of the invention is to make the button of such a form that the same will not roll it it should be dropped on the floor.

Another object of the invention is to make the button reversible so it may be used at the rear of the shirt, as well as at the front.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and etlicient inoperation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.

The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing. my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a front view of the invention.

Fig. 3 is a front View, with the members in the position for inserting the button in the button-hole.

Fig. 5 is a front View, with the button in the reverse position from that shown in Fig. l.

In these figures 1 indicates the base of the button conslstmg of a rectangular plate havmg an opening thereln to receive the standard 2. This standard is bent at right angles to form an engaging member 3, said member being tapered to a point, as shown. The arm A is pivoted to the plate by means of the loop 5 formed thereon and said arm is bent at right angles and is flattened and broadened out to form the finger-engaging part 6. This part 6, midway of its length, has an opening 7 therein, through which passes an I-bolt 8 having-an enlarged head 9, and a coil spring 10 is carried by this bolt between the head 9 and the part 6 of the arm. As will be seen, theeye of the I-bolt is located below the arm so as to engage with the tapered member 3 when the arm is swung over the plate and the spring will cause said eye to firmly hold the member 3. Thus, it

.will be seen that when the standard 2 is passed through the button holes of the shirt and collar and the arm swung into engaging position that the parts are locked into place so that it is impossible for the collar to be removed until after the arm is swung out of engaging position. To release the arm from the standard, it is simply necessary to press on the head 9 to release the eye of the bolt from the standard. When the button is to be used in the rear oi the shirt it is simply necessary to reverse the button, as shown in Fig. 5, so that the arm extends upwardly instead of downwardly.

It is thought from the foregoing that the advantages and novel features of my inven tion will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make slight changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. A collar button comprising a base, a standard thereon having a portion bent at right angles, an arm pivoted to the base, and an eyelet carried by said arm and adapted for engagement with the angular portion of said standard.

2. A button comprising a base, a standard thereon having a portion bent at right angles and tapering to apoint, an arm pivoted to the base and havinga portion bent at right angles, 'an I-bolt carried by said bent portion nd a coil spring on the bolt for holding the eye of the bolt in engagement with the tapered portion'ef the stenda-rd.
