To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL LOUIS ALLIFZ, of 38 Rue de la Chine, 'in the city of Paris, Republic of France, have invented Improvements Relating to sprinkling-Stoppers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention has for its object a sprinkling stopper which cannot be tampered with, said stopper being designed more particularly for bottles containing liquid perfumes or other analogous products.
This stopper, which consists of a floating valve and a ball forming a counterweight, placed in a chamber in the interior of the stopper and arranged in such a manner that, if the bottle be motionless, in any position, the float obstructs the outlet orifice and the liquid cannot escape, is characterized by the fact that it is internally provided with a screen having for its object to prevent any fraudulent refilling of the bottle, and that it is combined in such a manner that the various parts which constitute it can be assembled by flanging or hooking in a single operation. 7

Within the cylindrical body a are arranged a valve cl and a ball 6.
The upper part b, which is integral with a cylindrical hood f adapted to fit upon the neck of the bottle, is provided with a circular shoulder g on which fits the collar h of the conical cap a.
The wall of said conical cap is provided with a number of slots i adapted to allow the passage of the liquid and to prevent any insertion of a wire in the inner chamber of the cylindrical body a, by reason of the arrangement of tongues projecting in the chamber 70.
The cylindrical body has, at its upper part, a flange Z fitting on the collar h.

The valve cl, held upon its seat 0 by the ball 6, is preferably made of india rubber and is externally provided with ribs or wings n, allowing'it to slide in the lower part of the cylindrical body, without opposing the passage of the liquid.
The operation of this stopperis [as follows As soon as the bottle has been slightly inclined, the ball, by reason of the conical incline of the cap, places itself at the bottom of the latter and the valve is freed. At the same time the external air, passing through the chamber k and the orifices i, fills the inner chamber and from thence passing around the valve via the free space left between the ribs n, it enters the interior ofthe bottle through the circular hole formed at the bottom of the stopper. The liquid then flowing to the stopper passes into the hollow space in the valve located opposite the circular hole; the valve is thus slightly raised and provides a passage for the liquid which flowing through the empty space between the valve cl and the internal wall of the chamber, passes through the orifices i in order to spread itself in the chamber 70 whence it reaches the exterior.
It will be seen that if the bottle be left motionless, only a very small quantity of liquid would flow out; this would be promoted by the capillarity, so that the liquid would immediately intercept any fresh entrance of air; but by imparting to the bottle slight shocks from top to bottom like ordi nary sprinkling bottles, a succession of intermittent flows can be obtained which would ultimately be converted into an almost continuous jet.
The conical cap 0 can be surmounted by a rod or cylindrical column bearing a certain number of longitudinal grooves and fitting into the chamber is; one will thus prevent the introduction into the interior of the stopper, of an iron wire or other similar implement, for the purpose of raising the valve and thus fraudulently filling the bottle with a liquid other than that which it should normally contain.
Finally, the stopper can be provided with a cap in order to obviate any entrance of dust and to prevent the evaporation of the liquid.
