Specification of 4Letters Patent.
rateated Feb. ie, 191s.
Application ined March 21, 1917. serial No. 156,237.
T0 all whome't may concern.' v
Be 1t known that I, JOHN TAMAs, a subject of the King of Hungary, resident of S. E. Clevelanch'county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Security-Pockets, of which the following is avspecitication.
rlfhis invention relates to improvements in garments, and particularly to the pockets thereof, andV has as itsprincipal object the provision of a plurality of compartments within the pocket, each ofY the compait ments being suitable for holding iniscellaneous objects. separately, such as coins, bills, or' other valuables entirely distinct from the main pocket, the object being to prevent unauthorized or unwarranted intrusion, and possible subsequent loss.
This and other like objects are attained by the novel design and construction ofV parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, `forming a material part of this specification, and in which `Figure 1 is a side elevational vview of a gentlemans coat made in accordance with the invention, the pocket being indicated by broken lines. 1
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmental front view of the same, parts being broken away to show the interior.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4 is a similar view taken on line L--l of Fig. 2.
The material of the garment 10 is here shown to be of relatively heavy quality provided with an ordinary flap 11 cut transversely as at 12 allowing for the passage of the fingers or hand in entering the pocket.
Secured to the inner side of the material 10 are the . walls 14 and 15 of the pocket proper having between them a space 16 in whichv may be placed any articles which it is desired to carry, as handkerchiefs, gloves, etc., while secured'to the wall 15, constituting the inner portion of the pocket, is an auxiliary wall 18 having a space 19 between it Vand the wall 15, the opening to the space 19 being normally covered by a Hap 20 engaged along its upper edges so that merely copies o! this patent may be obtained for inserting the lingers in the pocket space 16 does notl disclose the opening tol the inner pocket.
kExtending from edge to edge ofthe pocket 19 is an elastic flexible element 22, the same being securely held at its ends and so arranged as to hold the wall 18 closely against the main` wall 15, and in one of the upper corners of the pocket is provided a third compartment 25, the walls of which are stitched together along the bottom 26 and Aside edge 27, forming in effect a plurality of' vrminor compartments susceptible of receiving coins or Vthe like which are prevented from issuing by the flap 2O as is vthe main portion of the second interior compartment which will be clearly seen from an inspection ef Figs. 3 and 11.
In operation, the flap 11 having been raised, and the lingers inserted through the slit 12 intoV the main pocket, small articles vmay be entered or withdrawn therefrom with entire freedom and without in anyway interfering withv the interior compartment, the wall 18 and flap 20 of which act as a baffle against entering, the slits open tothe compartments, being held in normal closed relation by the elastic element 22. From the foregoing, it will be seen that a secure and substantially robber-proof pocket has been disclosed which can be applied to any garment by any ordinary tailor or seamstress withoutmaterial changes in the garment of any kind.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
The combination with a garment having a main pocket therein, a flap for said pocket,
said flap normally covering the entrance thereto, of an interior supplementary pocket secured inside said main pocket, a flap therefor, an elastic means for closing the opening to saidinterior pocket, and a plurality of internalcompartments formed within said interior pocket.
Y In testimony whereof I have `aHiXed my signature.
JOHN ranas.
