COLLAPSIBLE- IBOZNING-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 12, 1918.
Application filed April 16, 1917. Serial No. 162,385.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON Bn'rrrNARDr, a citizen of Italy. residing at Hoboken, in the county of Hudson, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Ironing-Tables; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear. and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in ironing tables and is directed more particularly to a collapsible or folding ironing table.
An object of the present invention resides in the provision of an ironing table in which the parts are constructed and arranged in such manner that the table may be quickly and conveniently collapsed and as readily set up for use.
With the above and other objects of similar nature in view. the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts. set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ironing ta le constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a s de elevation thereof partially collapsed; and,
Fig. 3 is a similar View in eompletelyfolded position.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing the im roved ironing table compr ses a relatively long supporting member 5 including spaced parallel side ra ls 6. and di gonal a d tran e brace bars, 7 and 8 respectively, rigidly connecting said rails. There is also provided a relatively short supportin m mber 9 including spaced arallel s de rails 10 pivoted at 11 to the side ra ls of the member 5 and connected at their outer ends by a transverse bar 12. the ends of which project beyo d the side rails.
Pivoted to each side rail of the long supporting member 5 adiacent its ou er-end is a locking bar 13 that is formed adjacent its free end with a latch element 14 having an inclined face 13' and an abrupt face 14 the latter being adapted to engage behind the projecting end of the transverse bar 12 when the table is set up for use and serves to securely hold the same against collapsing movement.
The board of the improved table is designated at 15 and has fixed to its underside adjacent its rear end a transverse block 16 to which are pivotally connected as at 17 the side rails of the short supporting memher 9. Pivotally connected by means of staples 18 to the underside of the board 15 is a bail 19 the legs of which are loosely engaged in eyes 21 fixed in the side rails of the long supporting member 5.
By this arrangement it is possible to set up and collapse the table with a minimum expense of time and effort. It will be noted that the locking bars 13 rest at all times upon the projecting ends of the transverse bar 12. so that to place the table in position for use it is only necessary to place the foot upon said bar and impart with the hands an upward movement to the rear end of the board. the supporting members being thus unfolded and the inclined faces of the latches 14 riding over the bar to drop therebohind and positively maintain the parts in position as will be readily understood. It will also be obs rved that the locking bars 18 are connected by means of a rod 22 so that an upward thrust with the foot upon either of the bars 13 will disengage the latches 14 from the bar 12 and perm t the tab e to assume by its own weight a collapsed position.
\Vhat I claim is:--
In a collapsible ironing table. a relatively long supporting member. a relatively short supporting member pivoted to the long supporting member. a board pivotally engaged with the upper end of the short supporting member. laterally projecting portions at the lower end of the short supporting member, connected locking bars pivoted at corre sponding ends to the long supporting memher and slidable upon said projecting portions on the short supporting member at the outer sides thereof, and latches spaced from release the latches from the projecting porthe free ends of the locking bars and having tions for the collapsing of the table. 14) inclined edges adapted to ride over said pro- In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature jecting portions for the automatic engagein the presence of two witnesses.

outer edges to secure the table in set up Witnesses: position, the free ends of said locking bars \VM. M. SCHULTZ, forming levers for manual manipulation to ROBERT BETTINARDI.
