ful Improvements in Fastening Devices for Ribbon-Bows or the like, of which the following is a specification. r
This invention relates to improvements in fastening devices for ribbon bows or the like, and has for its object to provide a new and improved device of that class which may be readily fastened to the hair or garment of the wearer.
This invention is an improvement on a device shown and described in a patent to Tarnow, 985,075. That patent shows an improved bow holder for a similar purpose.
I have found that such a form of. device, especiallywhen attached to the hair of the wearer, in some instances slips relative thereto and becomes disarranged from the desired position, and to overcome this, and to provide a more practical device, I have invented the structure described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing a bow carried by my device;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view along the line 2-2' of Fig. 1, indicating the attachment of the same to alock of hair, and
Fig. 3 is a section taken along the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Like numerals refer to like elements throughout the drawings, in which 10 desig- -nates what I term the body portion, comprising an elongated strip to which is secured the clasp 11, hinged along one edge as indicated by numeral 11 and provided with the reversely bent or looped end 11', see Figs. 1 and 2. This clasp 11 is intended to grip or engage a ribbon bow or the like, asindicated by numeral 12, see Fig. 1. I provide means to attachthe same to the hair or garments of the wearer, this means comprising a pin 13, shown asof a Il -shaped variety and bowed intermedlate its ends, as shown in Fig. 3. This pin is hinged at its closed end at 13 in lugs 10, bent up or carried by the body portion 10, adjacent one end thereof. A pair of hook members 1O are provided at the other end of the body member 10 for engagement by the free ends of the pin 13. The body member 10 is provided with the slot or aperture 10 therein, at one edge of which is bent up or turned the ear 10, see Fig. 3 for example. The looped end I1 of the clasp 11 is adapted to engage the opposite edge of the aperture 10, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, when in position engaging the how 12. When the device is attached to the hair of the wearer, for example, the ends of the pin 13 may be inserted beneath a lock of hair 14, see Fig. 2 and bent therearound 6 under and engaging'the hooks 10. This will operate to force a portion of the hair 14 against the ear 10 and the latter will coact with the pin 13 to prevent slipping thereof relative to the hair or the like to which it is attached. This insures positive fixing of the pin in position when attached to the hair of the wearer,
My invention resides in the general combination and in the use andconstruction of the hair engaging ear and it will be apparent that it may be applied to barrettes and similar ornaments or the like. Consequently I do not wish to be restricted to the form shown and described except as defined by the appended claim. Y
What I claim is In a device of the class described, an elongated body. member having a part thereof partially cut away to form an aperture therein, a U-shaped pin hinged on said body member at one endthereof anddetachably engaging said body member at the'other end thereof, a bowed clasp overlying the opposite side of said member and extending transversely thereof, said clasp being hinged'to said body member at one side of said aperture and being provided with means to detachably engage the edge of said aperture opposite thereto, the partially cut-away portion of said body member extending transversely to the plane of said body member about its uncut edge opposite the edge of adjusted position.
said aperture engaged by said clasp to form In testimony whereof, I have subscribed a flan e parallel to the arms of said pin and my name. exten ing between sa1d arms, whereby when said device is in attached position said flange VINCENT STONE will coijperate with the arms of said pin to Witnesses: prevent displacement of said device from HELEN D. FREUND,
EDYTHE M. Annnnson.
