The present invention relates to buckles, buttons and clasps and has particular reference t0 nevv and nseful improvcments in wire clothes pins.

An object of my invention is to provide a clothes pin of: the class reierred to having a novel arrangemnt of parts whereby the same may be formedfrom a single strand of wire.

Another object ofm invention is to provide a pin of the class described which will not in any way mutilate the garment or the like held thereby on a clothes lino.

A further Object of my invention is to provide a clothes pin of the class described Which is cheap to manufacture, strong and durable, quickly and easily applied for use and effective in operation.

Other objects and advantageg to be derived from the use of my improved clothes pin Will appear from the following detailed description and the claim,taken with an inspection of theaccompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view 01 a clothes pin embodying the improvements of my invention, the same being shown in use;

Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of a pin, a portion thereof being in section the same being shoWn in use; and

Fig. 3 is a front view of the same.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, Wherein similar characters of reference designate like and corresponding parts throughout the various views, S designates a strand of Wire from Which my improved clothes pin is formed, said strand being coiledas at 10 approximately intermediate its ends to form a spring. One portion of the strand 0f wire S for1ns one arm of the pin and is designated 11, the free end of the arm 11 being bent upon itself as at 12 forming a parallel portion 13 which coperates with the arm 11 to form a gripping jaW. The free end of the portion 13 is bent inwardly as is best shown in Fig. 3 to prevent the same from catching in the garment to be Specificaton ofLetters Patent.

held and to eliminate sharp corners or projecting parts as much as possible.

The other ar1n of the pin is designated 14: and is bent approximately at right-angles as indicated at 15 to form a laterally extending portion 16 which projects between the arm 11 and 'the parallel portion 18 bent therefrom. A hook 17 is formed in the portion 16, said hook terminating in a V-shaped gripping element 18. The gripping element is provided with a laterally off-set portion 19 to provide a finger engaging member. A clothes lino has been shown and designated 20, a garment 21 being draped thereover.

In use my improved clothes pin is applied as shown in Fig. 1. The V-shaped gripping portion 18 is adapted to engage the garmont between the arm 11 and the portion 13 as best shown in Fig. 2. To apply the pin the arn1s 11 and 14 are merely compressed, the garment previously being draped over "the clothes line. Of course, the garment when gripped is distorted slightly but this distortion may be easily removed when the garment is pressed after drying. Compression oct the arms 11 and 14 causes the gripping member 18 to move to a point remote from the arm 11 and the portion 13 thereby permitting application of the pin to the garment. The portion 17 of the arm 14: serves to engage the garment adjacent the point in which the latter is draped over the clothes line and the V-shaped portion 18 engages beneath the clothes lino so that the garment is both prevented from moving longitudinally upon the clothes line and from being dislodged laterall thereirom.

From the above description taken in con nection With the accompanying drawing, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understandin g et the construction, operation and advantages of my invention may be had, and While I have shorvn and described the device as embodying a specific structure, I desired that it be understood that such changes may be made in said structure as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed( Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to sccure by Letters Patent, is:-
