WILLIAM ANTON, OF WEST DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
ROLLING-PIN.
application filed October 2,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM ANTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at West Duluth, in the county of Duluth, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rolling-Pins; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in rolling pins and has for its object to provide a device of this character having combined therewith a number of useful kitchen articles.
A further object of the invention is to provide a rolling pin which is formed from sheet metal and is so constructed as to provide a container for flour, a biscuit cutter and a movable blade associated with the biscuit cutter for cutting doughnuts.
lVith these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features, of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view.
Fig. 4 is an end view.
Fig. 5 is an end view of the cap.
Referring to the drawing 1 indicates the pin cylinder, which is formed from sheet metal and has an open end which is normally closed by the cap 2 threaded into engagement with the cylinder 1 and having its inner edge provided with a circular cutter 3 which constitutes a biscuit, cake, and doughnut cutter. The cap 2 is provided with a tubular extension 4 having its outer end provided with an opening 5 in which slides the plunge 6, the outer end of which is provided with a head 7. The inner end of the extension 4 isprovided with an annular shoulder 8 which is engaged by the inner end of the coil spring '9, the outer end thereof being engaged by the annular shoulder 10 carried by the plunger 6. The inner end of the plunger 6 is provided with a circular cutter 11 which is used for cutting the holes in doughnuts.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 22, 191%.
1916. Serial No. 123,391.
The closed end of the pin cylinder 1 is provided with a tubular extension 12 which has its outer end closed and provided with an opening 13 in which slides the plunger 11 connected at its inner end with the tubular container The outer end of the container is provided with a removable cap 16 whereby the container can be filled with flour.
The plunger 1% is provided with a shoulder 17 adjacent its outer end, said shoulder being engaged by one end of the coil spring 18, the other end of said spring being engaged with the shoulder 19 formed interiorly of the extension 12. The outer end of the plunger 1% is provided with a head 20.
The opening 13 is rectangular, as is the plunger 14 so that the container 15 will be prevented from rotating, but will be permitted to slide when the head 20 is forced inwardly, it being of course understood that the spring 18 will return the container to its inoperative position.
The container 15 is provided with a pinrality of rows of perforations 21 which extend longitudinally of the container and are adapted to register with the perforations which are arranged in rows and extend longitudinally of the pin cylinder 1. It will be of course understood that the perforations of the container are brought into register with the perforations of the cylinder when the container has been forced inwardly.
The cap 2 can be conveniently ren'loved so that the cutter 3 thereof can be used for cutting biscuits or cakes, and when it is desired to cut doughnuts the plunger (3 forced inwardly so that the cutter 11 will cut the hole in the doughnut, as is obvious. As soon as pressure is relieved upon the head 7 the spring 9 will return the cutter 11 to its inoperative position.
It will be of course understood that the extensions e and 12 constitute handles so that the device can be rolled in the usual manner.
WVhat is claimed is A device of the class described comprising a. perforated cylinder having one end closed, said end having a central opening. a tubular handle projecting from said end and provided with an opening in its outer end alined with the first named opening, a perforated container slidable longitudinally in said cylinder and having its perfo rations normally out of registration With those in sand cylinder, a plunger extending from one end of said container and through said alined openings whereby to permit of an ad ustment of said container to register said openings, a spring coiled about said plunger and interposed between the adjacent end of said cylinder and the outer end of said handle for normally retaining said perforations out of registration, and a sec- 1 ond handle carried by the end of the cylinder opposite to the first handle. In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
