UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID M. COHN, 0F EVAN SVILLL E, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO KRUCKEMEYER AND CORN, .5. PARTNERSHIP GOMPOSED BENJAMIN L, KRUCKEMEYER AND DAVID M. COHN,
OF EVANSVILLE, INDIANA.
BELT-BUCKLE.
Specification o'f letters'latent. Patented Dec. 25, 1917.
Original application filed May 35, 1916, Serial No. 100,545. Divided and this application filed May 1, 1917. Serial No. 165,873.
Be it lmown that 1, DAVID M. Court, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evansville, county of Vanderburg, and. State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt-Buckles, of which the following is a specification. This. invention relates to belt buckles. Wearers of mens belts encounter a tends ency of the belt to rise and override the upper edge of the trousers, thus detracting from a neat appearance. Cloth loops have been provided on the front of the trousers waist band to hold the belt down at this point, but the dressy appearance of the huekle is thereby marred.
The object of my invention is the provision, on a belt buckle having a front plate which is designed to overlie the adjustable belt end, and a cam gripping bale or loop adapted to clamp the said belt end, of a fin-' the accompanying drawings to illustrate that it may assume different forms, but as the invention issusceptible of other embodi ments in other forms, the disclosure is to be considered as illustrative, rather than restrictive, of the scope of the invention.
In thea'ccompanying drawings: Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view showing one form of the inventionv and illus-' trating its use; and
Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of a modification.
Referring first to Fig. 1-, the buckle plate or body 1 has side flanges 2 in, which is journaled at 3 the loop 4 having cam or Copies of this patent may be. obtained for wedge bar 5. One end 6 of the belt is made fastto the loop i and the other, or loose,
end 7 is entered between the flanges 2 and clamped against the rear face of body 1 by the cam or wedge bar 5.
A cross bar-8 connects the flanges 2 and overlies the loose belt end 7. Carried by the bar 8 is a finger or hook 9 which is so disposed that it is adapted to engage the metal loop constituting a partof the front top fastener for the trousers. The hook or finger 9' preventsv the', buckle from rising and also keeps it, and the belt, from shiftingfaround the bodyof the wearer.
In the form shown in Fig. 2, the bar.
8 carries a fork or double hook 10.which is adapted to straddle the thread of the stem or shank of the front top buckle of the.
my application for belt-buckles, filed May 29, 1916, Serial No. 100,545.
Having thus described my invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A belt buckle having a front plate provided with side flanges and designed to overlie the adjustable belt end, a loop hinged to said front plate and adapted for attach' ment to the fixed belt endand for clamping the adjustable beltend between itself and the front plate, and a cross bar connecting the side flanges and carried by the rear part of said front plate at the rear of the adjustable belt end, and adapted to over lie said belt end and a hook carried'by said cross bar being adapted for retaining the buckle ona garment.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto afii my signature.
DAVID M. COHN.
