IMPRCVEMENT IN KN IFE CLEANERS AND SHARPENERS.
Specification formingpart of Letters Patent No. 125,050, dated March 26, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SOPHUS A. W. HOU- MANN and HANS NrELsoN, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have made a certain new and useful Improved Household Implement; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and true description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of this invention is to form an improved household implement for sharpenin g, cleaning, and polishing household cutlery, &c. The nature thereof consists in the an rangement of sharpening and polishing material on reverse sides of an oblong bar, at the lower end of which is further arranged a receptacle to contain ordinary cleaning or polishing stuff, in manner now to be more fully described.
To enable those herein skilled to make and use our said invention, we will now more fully describe the same, referring to Figure l as a front perspective view, Fig. 2 as a rear perspective View.
The wooden body A is formed at the top so as to be hung away when not used. To the front face of said body A is attached or secured properly a suitable coating, B, of emery, sand, or other ordinary sharpening material, as indicated in Fig. 2. To the back: portion of the body A, and properly secured to the ends of same, is the polishing-leather (J, (usually sheep-skin,) as indicated in Fig. 1. Further, at the lower end of the body A, is arranged a box or receptacle, D, to contain the polishing stuff, which is to be used in 0011- nection with the polishing-leather. The cutlery is sharpened on the sharpening surface B, and polished on the polishing surface 0.
The implement thus constructed is simple, cheap, and durable in construction, and convenient for sharpening, cleaning, and polishing household cutlery.
Having thus fully described our said invention, what we claim is The combination of the sharpening surface B, polishing surface 0, and receptacle 1), arranged as and for the purpose herein described.
