This invention relates to means for supporting a v10l1n to keep the. v10l1n 1n position beneath the chin of the player.

The object of the invention is to provide a device which may be easily and quickly attached to a violin, preferably by means of the chin rest, for the purpose of supporting the violin in position beneath the chin of the player, the said means being designed to engage the players collar whereby it may be readily adjusted in position.

lVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the following novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended. V

In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective View of a portion of a violin with the chin rest thereon and with the improved support in position, the book being illustrated engaged to a collar which is shown in dotted lines;

Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the chin rest securing means, illustrating the manner of engagement of the support therewith;

Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective view of the support.

Referring more specifically to the drawings, wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts, the violin is shown at 1, the chin rest 2 and the chin rest securing means at 3. The chin rest is of the usual or any preferred construction and is secured in position upon a violin by means of the usual clamping device shown, which consists of violin engaging elements 4, and a sleeve 5, which is interiorly threaded for the purpose of lengthening or shortening the said elements.

The violin support as shown at 6 is formed from a single piece of wire and comprises a book 7 formed in the manner shown and adapted for en agement over the collar of the player, the .001; 7 being adapted to lie upon the inside of the collar. The support 6 is further formed with arms 8, which when they are disengaged from the ole ments 4: are substantially parallel being formed of resilient wire. Formed upon the free ends of the arms 8 are laterally and outwardly extending semi-circular engaging hooks 9, adapted for engagement around the elements 4 and when adjusted the support is securely held in position by the resilient character of the arms 8. The hooks 9 are engaged with the elements 4 at a point below the lower end of the sleeve 5, the said sleeve acting as a stop to prevent any upward movement of the semi-circular engaging hook 9.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that the invention pro-- vides a support of an exceedingly simple construction which is capable of ready attachment to a violin and by means of which theviolin may be held in position beneath the chin of the player.

Changes in the form and proportion of the invention may bemade without departing from the spirit thereof, and the right is reserved to make such changes.

Having described the invention what I claims is:

1. The combination with a violin chin rest provided with attaching means therefor, of a hook carried by said attaching means for engagement with the collar of the user.

2. The combination with a violin chin rest provided with attaching means therefor, of a spring hook supported by said attaching means for engagement with the collar of the user.

3. The combination with a violin chin rest provided with attaching means therefor, of a detachable spring hook supported by said attaching means for engagement with the collar of the user.

4. The combination with a violin chin rest provided with attaching means therefor, of a hook formed with spring arms for engagement with said attaching means, said book being adapted for engagement with the collar of the user. I I
