WALTER T. BOBO, OF BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN, ASSTGNOR TO THE EASY TRUSS COMPANY, OF BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN.
BELT FOB' TRUSSES AND THE LIKE.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER T. Bono, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Battle Creek, countyl of Calhoun, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belts for Trusses and the like, of which the following is a` specification.
This invention relates to improvements in belts for trusses and the'like.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved belt for trusses and the like which shall have the desired amount of elasticity without necessitating the use of elastic webbing and one in which the resilient parts are so arranged as to cause no discomfort to the wearer and are fully protected.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claim.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure I is a detail outside view of my improved belt.
Fig. II is a detail view of the parts shown in Fig. I with the covering flaps open.
Fig. III is an enlarged detail section on a line corresponding to line 3--3 of Fig. II.
Fig. IV is an enlarged detail on a line corresponding to line M of Fig. II.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing, the straps l are adapted to be passed around the body and are provided with suitable truss pad enga ging means at their front ends, not illustrated. The rear ends of these straps are passed under the loops 2 at the ends of the pad 3. This pad preferably consists of an outer portion t of leather, an inner portion 5 of suitable fabric, these parts being se- Specicaton of Letters Patent.

cured together by lapping the edges 6 of the outer portion inwardly over the edges of the inner portion and stitching at 7. The stitches 7 also secure the covering flaps 8 adapted to overlap each other and provided with coacting snap button fastener members 9 and l0, respectively.
The coiled springs l1 are secured at their ends to the buckles 12 which are engaged with the straps, as shown in Fig. II. These buckles coacting with the loops 2 limit the outward expansion of the springs and also prevent the springs and buckles being drawn from the pad which constitutes a casin@V as well as a back pad for the truss strap.
lIVith the parts thus arranged, the springs are so protected that they do not come in contact'with the body of the weare1 and, further, there are no parts to deteriorate as is the case with elastic webbing which rapidly loses its elasticity, particularly when brought into direct contact with the body of the wearer.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a belt for trusses, the combination of a pair of straps, a back pad having flexible retaining and limiting loops at its ends under which said straps are slidablj,7 disposed, a plurality of coiled springs, a buckle adjustable on each of said straps, the opposite ends of said springs being secured to said buckles respectively, said buckles constituting stops coaeting with said loops to limit the expansion pull on said springs and to prevent the springs being withdrawn from the pad, and flaps secured to the lon gitudinal edges of said pad to overlap over said springs, said flaps being provided with fastenings.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
WALTER T. Bono. [as] Witnesses:
