TREATMENT-TABLE,
earner.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented} NQVII 20a, 191% Application filedMareh 21, 1917. Serial No. 156,272.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATTHEW R. Mo
BURNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have in vented new and useful Improvements in Treatment-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
.My invention relates to a treatment table, and more particularly to such tables as used by masseurs and osteopathists in treating affections of the spinal columnand the objects of my invention are, to collapse such table so as to cause the bending or stretching of a patient lying upon the table; to provide a table top consisting of two members each of suitable length adapted for bending treatment of the spine of a pa tient lying upon the table, the two members being swing'ably connected so as to allow a collapsing of the table top bringing the tops of the two members in an inclined position toward each other and allowing also to bring the top of the two members to a position to form a straight surface; to provide a hinge connection between the two members of the table top and an oscillating member disposed below one of the two members hingedly connected to the memher; to simplify such treatment tables; the invention consisting in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a plan view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the device on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Similar numbers refer to similar parts throughout the papers.
Referring to the drawing, 3 designates a frame which is supported by the legs 4:. A block or board 5 is disposed in the frame interconnected with the frame having a hinge 6 secured thereto. The hinge is also secured to the table top-member 7 allowing this top member to swing on the frame construction bringing the end 8 of the top to the position indicated at 9, while the end 10 of the top can swing to about the position indicated at 11. Another block or board 12 is secured to the frame 3 at the opposite end of the frame having a hinge 13 secured thereto. The hinge 13 connects the board 12 with the oscillating member 14, of which the upper end is connected to the second table top 15 by the hinge 16. The two table tops 7 and 15 are swingably connected by the hinge 17 whereby a swing 111g of the table top 7 as described above causes a swinging of the table top 15, bringlng the end 18 of the table top 15 to the position lndicated at 19, while the end 20 moves with the end 10 of the first described top member 7 downward to the position indicated at 21.
For setting the table top members 7 and 15 in any desired position, lugs 22 are pro vided on the one top member having pivotally connected thereto suitably shaped ad justing bars 23, which are provided with a slot at, fitting slidingly over a shaft 25. The adjusting bars 23 are disposed between the clamping bars 26, which are held in po sition between the cross bars 27. The hand wheel 28 is mounted on the shaft 25 at one end and a nut 29 is screwed to the other enc.
By turning the hand wheel in one direction the nut is tightened and the clamping bars hold the adjusting bars in the position into which ithas been adjusted, while a turning in the other direction loosens the nut and thereby frees the adjusting bars between the clamping bars. As countermember for the nut, a distance bar 30 is disposed between the clamping bars and the frame 3 of the device, the coaction of this with the hand wheel, shaft and nut will easily be understood.
A patient placed on this table with his face downward, or on his back, or sidewise, will naturally have to follow the collapsing of the two tops, and thereby his spine will be in a position to allow a treatment to whatever direction it may be necessary, and the masseur is naturally in a position to collapse the table top or straighten it, bending the body of his client in accordance with the required treatment.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. In a treatment table of the class described in combination with the frame and the table tops in such treatment table, a supporting member hingedly connected with the frame at one end and having the other end hingedly connected at about the middle of one of the table tops so as to allow such table top to move back and forth while swinging from ler el to inclined p0- sitio'n'o'r reversed in relation W'ith t'he frame and the other table top.
2. A treatment-table 0f. the type de scribed comprising a frame, two table top members having means for swingahly connecting the same, connecting means dispose'd bet-ween the frame and one of the top members for swingably connecting the top member to the frame, a supporting member hi gedly cmmected o he frame and :to
fiopfu of mi yatentqnay be obtained or below this. other member, and locking means disposed Within the frame having means for holling the swinging table top members in the desired position.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
