To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, .MlCHEL MAIsEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in j Figure lVheeled Toys; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de flashing of said eyes during, the movement ofthe toy. I
The invention has for its principal object to provide a toy figure with a wheeled mounting whereby it may be pulled or propelled about, and, furthermore, to provide said toy figure with electrically illuminated eyes, governed by a novel mechanical-electric controlling mechanism whereby the eyes are caused to be intermittently illuminated or flashed as the toy figure is pulled or pro-' pelled along.
Other objects of the present invention,
not at this time more particularly enumerated, will be clearly understood from the following detailed description of the same.
lVith the various objects of my present invention in view, the same consists, primarily, in the novel toy hereinafter set forth; and the invention consists, further-- more, in the novel arrangements and combinations of the several devicesand parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, all of which will be more fully described in the following specification, and then finally embodied in the claims appended thereto.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 IS a side elevation of the novel toy made according to and embodying the; principles of my present nvention; Fig. 2' is a bottom view of the same showing abottom cover for concealing and closing the battery and wiring compartment of the toy;
Fig. 3 is a similar view with saidbottom cover removed to show the interior of said battery and wiring compartment and its contents; and Fig. 4 is a View showing a slightly modified construction of the mechanical-electric features of my novel toy.
Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the hereinabov'e described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now, more particularlyto Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive of said drawings, the reference-character 1 indicates the complete toy, made according to and embodying the principles of my present invention, the same comprising a platform 2, upon which is mounted a toy figure or etfigy 3 of any desirable form, such, for example, as the bear shown in the drawings, or any other animal, human or other figure.

The space beneath said platform 2, between said flanges 4 and transverse supporting members 5, constitutes a battery and Wiring compartment 11, which may be nor-- mally closed by a cover-member 12 adapted to engage said flanges 4, and adapted to be secured to the latter by means of screws" 13, or any other desired form of fastening devices. Connected with said binding-post 22 of said c ntact-plate 21 is a fircuit wire 27, which leads to and is connected with the branch delivery circuit wires 28 which lead to the lamps 18. Preferably said platform 2 is provided with openings or perforations 29 through which said branch wires 28 respectively extend, the latter ihen being ex- ,tended internally through the body of the figure or eliigy to the lamps 18- connected therewith. Connected with each lamp 18 is a return branch circuit wire 30, which extends internally through the body of-the figure or efligy, so as to respectively emerge through. the respective openings 29, from whence they extend toand are connected with said second anchor binding-post 24. Extending from said anchor binding-post 24 to the negative pole binding-post 17 of said battery 15 is a return circuit wire 31, through which the above described electric circuit through the lamps 18 is completed.
It will be apparent that so long as the switch-arm 19 is disengaged from, or outot contact with, said contac vplate 21, the lamp circuit is interrupted or broken, and the eyes formed by said lamps 18 will remain unilluminated; when, however, the switcharm 19 is moved into contact with said contact-plate v21, the circuit will be thereupon closed nd t e eyeareprese ted-bysaid lamps gagcment with said contact-plate 21.

As the wheel 8 rotates the high part of this cam memb er 32 will move into engagement with the freecnd of said switcharm 19, thereupon 'deg-iressing the same,'an'd forcing its free end into Contact with said contact-plate 21, until said high part of said cam-member moves out of engagen'lent with said switch-arm, whereupon the tension of the latter will return the same to normal initial position and thus break the electric circuit. it will, therefore, be understood that as the mounted figure or elligy is pulled, or propelled along the grounder floor, each revolution of the wheel 8 carrying the cammember '32, will cause a brief closing of the electric lamp circuit, thereby illuminating the eyes of the figure or efligy with an intermittent flashing effect, whereby a novel toy is produced, capable of rendering, through the unique effects above described, considerable amusement.
Of course it will be understood. that the battery 15 may be readily removed when discharged and replaced by a live cell. It will also be clear that the arrangement of the wiring is subject to various changes, and that 1 do not lim't myself to the arrangement thereof which is above described.
Referring-now, more particularly, to Fig. 4. of the drawings, I have illustrated therein a slightly modified construction and location of circuit make and break device and operating cam member therefor. In thisconstructron 1 mount upon the nnderside of the platform ilan insulating block 33 upon which is secured a rearwardly extending spring switch-arm 34; having the binding post 35 for the connection of the electric circuit wires thereto. Also mounted upon the underside of said platform 2, to the rear of said block 33 is another insulating block 36, upon which is secured a con tact-plate 37 adapted toreceive the engagement of said spring switch-arm 3 1, said contacteplate37, also having a binding-post 38 forthe connection of the electric circuit wires thereto. In this case the rear axlemember 39, to which the traction wheels 10 are secured, isrendered rotatable, and fixed on said axle-member 39, so as to rotate therewith, is acam-member 11, positioned so that upon rotation its high part will engage and press said switch-arm 3 1 into circuitclosin-g contact with said contact-plate 37. In other respects the device is constructed and operate 1n ssubst-antlallylh same manner as of the construction of said parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

In a device of the kind described a wheeled platform, an effigy mounted on said platform, electric lamps forming the eyes of said effigy, an electric battery secured to said platform, said battery being connected in circuit with said electric lamps, a circuit make and break device, and means operated by the movement of said wheeled platform for intermittently operating said circuit make and break device.

In a toy device a wheeled platform, an effigy secured upon said platform, electric lamps forming the eyes of said effigy, an electric battery secured to said platform, an electric circuit supplied by said battery including said lamps, a normally open circuit make and break device included in said circuit, comprising a movable switch memher and a stationary contact-plate, and means operated by the movement of said wheeled platform adapted to intermittently move said switch member into electric engagement with said contact-plate.
4. In a toy device a wheeled platform, an efiigy secured upon said platform, electric lamps forming the eyes of said effigy, an electric battery secured to said platform, an
electric circuit supplied by said battery inproviding a compartment beneath ,platform, axle-members, means connected laterally spaced flanges connected with the underside of said platform, lateral supporting members having depending bearing members connected with the underside of said platform, axle members journaleol through said bearing members, wheels on the free ends of said axle members, an effigy 1 supported upon the upper side of said platform, electric lamps forming the eyes of said effigy, an electric battery, means'for sup porting said battery on the underside of said platform, an electric circuit suppliedby said batteryincluding said lamps, a normally open circuit make and break deviceincluded in said circuit, and meansrotatiug with said wheels for intermittently closing said circuit make and break device.

In a toy device a platform, longitudinal laterally spaced flanges connected with the underside of said platform, lateral supporting members having depending bearing members connected with the underside of said platform, axle members journaled through said bea ing members, wheels on the free ends of said axle members, an. effigy supported upon the upper side of said platform, electric lamps forming the eyesof said effi y, an electric battery, means for supporting said battery on the underside of said platform, an'electric circuit supplied by said battery including said lamps, a normally open circuit make and break device included in said circuit, and comprising a movable switch member and a stationary contactplate, and cam mechanism connected with certain of said wheels adapted to intermittently move said switch member into circuit closing relation to said contact plate.
