- One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a light yet substantial stand or device which may be made compact when not in use to adapt the same to be placed in the carrying case usually employed for small portable typewriters, or otherwise arranged for easy transportation, and which device is so constructed that it provides a rigid support of proper height to hold the typewriter on the top thereof in convenient position for use, and in such a way that the typewriter may be readily removed from or placed on the device.

One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a light yet substantial stand or device which may be made compact when not in use to adapt the same to be placed in the carrying case usually employed for small portable typewriters, or otherwise arranged for easy transportation, and which device is so constructed that it provides a rigid support of proper height to hold the typewriter on the top thereof in convenient position for use, and in such a way that the typewriter may be readily removed from or placed on the device. y
Another object of the invention is to provide a stand or device for writing or other machines in which a head forming the direct support for the machine may be detachable from the rest of the stand. 1
Other objects of the invention are to provide a stand which is simple in construction and which may be readily made and assembled; to provide a stand in which the legs may be made of a plurality of telescopic members or sections to adapt the same to be shortened or lengthened according to whether the stand is to be made compact for transportation purposes or to be extended for use; and to provide a head, table or support which may be readily attached to and positively clamped to another part of the stand by a part of the head or table.
A further object of the invention is to provide a stand having means on which the operator may rest his foot to assist in holding the stand while in use and which means may be folded against one ofthe legs of theV stand when not in use.
A- still further object of the invention isv to provide a stand which is particularly adapted for use in connection with the Corona foldable typewriter.

ln the particular embodiment of the in-` vention, the device has a stand portion or member 10, and a head, table or member 11. The stand portion or member 10 has a cylindrical shell, member or casing 12 which is provided with a closed end 13 at the upper portion thereof and an open lower end having an outwardly flared portion 14, said end or part 13 being depressed or countersunk to provide an annular rim on which the head 11 rests. A. bracket or member 15 is located within the casing 12. This bracket has three radially arranged arms 16 and is held to the inner face of the part 13 of the casing or stand member 12 by screws 17 or otherwise. The bracket 15 may be formed of sheet metal so as to provide flanges 18 forming sockets 19 for the reception of the upper ends 20 of the stand legs 21. The number of the legs 21 may vary, and in case four legs are used instead of three, there would be four radial arms 16 for their reception. Each arm has one of the legs 21 pivoted thereto by means of a rod or pin 22 and each leg comprises a plurality of members or sections 23, 24 and 25. As shown, each leg comprises three sections. The sections 23, 24 and 25 are substantially triangular or sector-like n cross-section and are tubular, the section 24 being somewhat smaller than the section 23 and the section 25 somewhat smaller than the section 211. The sections are thus telescopic so that the member 24 may be moved into the member 23 and the member 25 into the member 24, thus materially shortening the legs when not in use, as shown in Fig. 2, or permitting the legs to be readily extended when in use as shown in Fig. 1. When the legs are extended as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the outward movement thereof on their pivot rods 22 will be limited by the flared part 14 of the casing or member 12, thus forming a brace for the legs and preventing the same from spreading outward too far. The sections of the legs may be provided with spring catches or suitable devices to hold them in theirl extended position as is usual in legs of this kind. One of said catches of each leg has a push button 26, Fig. 1, or other push means to release the catch when collapsing the stand, while the other catches, if used, may be automatic in their action. As the catches form no part of the present invention, further illustration is thought unnecessary. By constructing the stand or stand member 10 in the manner described, the leg sections may be collapsed and the legs forced together as shown in Fig. 2, thus making the stand materially shorter and providing a substantially uniform cylindrical package convenient for handling or for transportation purposes.

head 11 comprises two members 27 and 28. The member 27 is substantially triangular in form having its body provided with a marginal strengthening llange 29 extending upwardly from the body portion 30, and said member 27 has parts 31 forming rigid arms, the outer ends of which support the rear part of the typewriter. The length of the arms 31 are such that the rear rubber tips or feet 31a ef the typewriter are adapted to seat themselves on said arms and to be retained against movement by means of the marginal wall 29 at the end of said arms against which said tips or feet are adapted to rest. The member 27 has a forwardly extending part or arm 32 substantially intermediate the arms or portions 31, and pivoted to said forwardly extending arm is the clamping or lever member 28. This member 28 as well as the member V27 and other parts of the device may be formed from aluminum cr other material in order that the same may be light and strong and convenient to manufacture. This member 28 as well as the member 27 may have parts thereof cut out to further lighten the same and the forward end of said member 28 is offset, as at 33, and has a hooked portion 34; which is adapted toy fit over the transversely extending bar 35 of the typewriter frame as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The member 28 tapers somewhat lengthwise thereof and is provided with an upper portion or face 36 and downwardly extending flanges 37 and 38, the former being somewhat longer and its lower portion being bent Vangularly as shown best in Fig. 10, the hooked portion 31 being formed as an extension of the upper face 36.
To hold the head 11 detachably locked to the shell, casing or stand member 12 so that it may be readily attached to or detached therefrom, T provide the said casing 12 with a flared, beveled or conical flange 39. This flange or flared portion 39 is adapted to be engaged by two lips or ears 40, Figs. l and 7, which are pressed from the body 30 of the member 27 and are adapted to engage said flared portion 39 on opposite sides of the longitudinal center of the head considered from the position the same assumes it the inner end of the lever member 28 near its pivot is a downwardly extending lip or ear 111 which is adapted to have a camaction against the flared portion 39 of the casing 12 so as to force the ears 10 tightly against said portion and positively lock and grip the casing 12 between the ears 10 aud 4:1. The lever clamping member 28 is pivoted to the part or arm of the member 27 by a rivet or bolt 12. This `rivet is provided with a head 13 and tw@ shoulders la and 45, and said rivet is held to the member 27 by spreadm the end thereof or may be held by a nut'as preferred.
It will be evident that when the member 10 is in the position shown with the legs extended and ready for use, the head 11 may be readily attached thereto'by placing the member 27 over the shell or casing 12 and bringing the ears 40 forward to engage under the flange or {iared portion 39 of said casing 12. At this time, the lever clamping member 28 is clear of the casing 12 and may be substantially `parallel with the arms or portions 81 of theV member 27, and when sai-d member 28 has its outer end forced to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the cam action of the ear 41 engaging under the fiange or flared portion 39 on the side thereoic opposite the ears 40, will positively clamp and lock the stand casing 12; between said ears. In this position the device is ready'for use and the typewriter may have its transverse bar 35 inserted in the hooked portion 34 of the member 28 and the rear corner buttons, feet or tips of the typewriter may be madeto rest in the outer portions of the arms or parts 31 of the member 27 against the marginal liange about the same, thus rigidly holding the typewriter against move-- ment when in use but permitting the typewriter to be readily removed at will and also permitting the head 11 to be detached by sim-ply movingV the lever member 28 4on its pivot to one side. `When the lever men ber 28 is moved to one side, the head 11 is more compact and convenient for transportation, and after the removal of the head or before, it preferred, the stand legs may be collapsed or telescoped and moved together to reduce the length and make the same compact as shown best in Fig. 2.
As a means to position the head 11 properly with respect to the stand proper or mem-v ber l0 and to hold thehead against rotary movement, the casing or member 12 is provided with two outwardly projecting lugs or to a part or memberl 66.

These lugs 49 and 50 are adapted to enter slots 51 and 52 respectively, in the head member-27 and serve thereby to position properlyV the head member 27 on the casing 12 and hold 75 said head against independent rotary movement, and as one of the lugs, as 49, is larger than the other, it will be impossible to place Y the member 27 Vover said lugs except in one` position. rfhe slots 51 and 52 are elongated v80 to permit the ears 41 to be placedover the flared part .39 andthe head moved forwardly for the ears 40 to engage said flared-part ready for the member 28 to be moved to a clamping position. v
8, the latter position being when the device is to' be made compact and is vnot in use. The purpose of this rest is that the operator may place his left foot thereon in orderl to assist Vin bracing the stand legs while operating the'typewriter, though otherbracing means may be used if desired.
Figs. lland 12 show a construction which is substantially the same and which operates in substantially the same manner as that already described. .In this case,.-thel stand casing or member 61 differs somewhat from the casing or member 12 of the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 10. The legs 120 62 are pivoted by screws or bolts 63 to a bracket 64 of the form shown in the other figures. This bracket is held by a screw 65 Y A disk 67 or washer of hard wood or other material` is 125 interposed between the member 66.and a member or shell 68, the latter being held-to the disk 67 by screws 69 or otherwise..v The screw 65 has a collar vor washer 70 about which fits the disk 67 and about said collar 130 Y and interposed between the bracket 64C and the disk 67 is a thin metal washer 71. rlhe shell 68 has lan inner portion 72 and an outer portion 7 8. The inner portion 7 3 has slots for the outward movement of the pivot ends ot the legs to pass, the latter being limited in their outward movement by the beveled end 741 of the outer portion 73 ot the shell 68. The inner portion or skirt 72 of the shell 68 may be integral or it may be formed Vas a separate metallic member, the upper end of which would be flared inward, as at 76, or the said inwardly ared portion 76 may be integral with the outer part of the shell as shown.
The member 66 is substantially hexagonal and provides straight engaging sides, although one of the sides, as 77, may be curved. The periphery of the disk 66 .is beveled 0r flared outwardly, as at 78, on all of its Sides and two of said sides, as 79 and 80, are adapted to be engaged by ears 81 pressed from the body of the member 82- of the head or support 88. A lever clamping member 84 also having an ear is pivoted to the member 82 by means of a rivet 85 or otherwise so that when the lever clamping member 84 is moved to the position shown in Fig. 12, the cam action due to said lever will draw the ears 81 under the sides 79 and 80 and detachably hold the head 83 to the member 61. rlhe construction of the members 82 and 84 of the head or support 83 is substantially the same as in the other views and differs principally in the fact that it dispenses with the registry lugs 49 and 50, while the member 61 is more complicated than the member 12 and has the gripping or flared part for the supporting head separate instead of integral as with the member 12.
From the foregoing, it will be evident that simple and eficient means is provided whereby a typewriter may be positively held and supported in a convenient position for use; that the invention is simple in construction and may be readily made and assembled; that the invention comprises primarily two parts, a head and a stand or stand member which are detachably held together; that the head or support forms an eective clamping means whereby the same may be readily attached to or detached from the stand member; that the parts are so constructed that they may be made very compact when not in use in order that the device may be readily transported; and that said invention is particularly adapted to support and holdsmall portable typewriting machines.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentz- 1. In a device of the character described,
Lafraise the combination of a stand member comprising a casing and legs pivotally held to said casing, each leg having a plurality of telescopic sections, said casing havingl a flared upper portion, a head member provided with integral ears adapted to engage the fia-red portion of the casing at the rear thereof and adapted to receive and hold the rear feet of a typewriting machine, and a pivoted clamping member provided with an ear also adapted to engage the flared portion of the casing and having a hooked outer portion adapted to engage the forward part of the typewriting machine frame.
2. ln a device of the character described, the combination of a casing, legs pivotally held to said casing, said casing having an upper engaging portion, a head member provided with means adapted to engage the engaging portion of the casing and adapted to receive and hold the rear feet of a typewriting machine, and a clamping member having means also adapted to engage the engaging portion oit' the casing and having a part thereof adapted to engage a part of the typewriting machine frame.
8. In a device of the character described, the combination of a stand member comprising a casing and legs pivotally held to said casing, each leg having a plurality of telescopic members, said casing having a beveled upper portion, a substantially triangular head member having ears adapted to engage the beveled part of the casing, and a clamping member pivotally held to said head member and also having means adapted to engage the beveled portion of the casing and provided with a hooked outer portion adapted to engage an object.
4c. ln a device of the character described,
the combination of a cylindricalV shell-likeV casing, a bracket located within said casing, legs pivotally held to said bracket within said stand casing and comprising a plurality of telescopic sections, a substantially triangular shect metal head member provided with a marginal wall and having integral ears adapted to engage a part of the casing, said head member being adapted to receive and hold the rear feet of a typewriting machine, and a second cam-acting and pivotally held clamping head member also having an ear adapted to engage the casing and having means adapted to engage and hold another part of the typewriting machine.
5. A device of the character described, comprising a head having means adapted to support and hold a writing machine, and supporting means detachably held to said head, a part of said machine supporting means serving also to detachably hold said head to its supporting means.
6. ln a device of the character described,
the combination of a'memberhaving flared upper and lower portions, a bracket secured within said member and having radially arranged arms, legs pivotally held to said arms and adapted to be spread apart and have their spreading movement limited'by the lower i'iared portion of said member, and a typewriter supporting head detachably held to the upper ilared portion of the member.
7. In a device of the character described, the combination of a member having flared upper andlower portions, legs having telescopic parts pivotally held within said member and adapted to be spread apart and have their spreading movement limited by the lower i'iared portion of said member, anda typewriter' supporting head detachably held to the upper flared portion of the member.
8. In a device of the character described, the combination of a member /having eX- tensible legs att-ached thereto, and a -supporting head comprising a substantially triangular mcmber having rigid arms and provided with a marginalv flange, two of said arms forming seats adapted to receive the feet of a typewriting machine, and a pivotally held clamping memberl having means to engage a forward portion of the typewriting machine.
9. In a device of the character described, the combination of a member having legs pivotally attached thereto, and a head comprising a substantially triangular member having rigid arms and provided with a marginal flange, two ofvsaid arms forming seats adapted to receive the feet of a writing machine, and a member pivotally held to the other arm and having means to engage another portion ot the writing machine.
10. In a devicel of the charactery described, the combination of supporting means, and a detachable heed comprising .a member having having rigid arms adapted to support one part of a machine, and a pivotally held clamping member having means to support another part of the machine.
11. In a device of the character described, the combination of a member having eXtensible legs pivotally attached thereto, and a supporting head comprising a substantially triangular member adapted to support one part of a typewriting machine, and a member held to the other member and having means to engage and support another part of the typewriting machine.
12. In a device or" the character' described, the combination of a member having a flared upper portion, and a typewriter supporting head comprising two pivotally held members having integral ea rs adapted to engage said flared portion and "letaehably hold said head to said member.
13. In a device of the character described,
the combination of a member, and a typewriter supporting head having two members pivotally heldwith respect lto each other and adapted to clamp said member between them.
14. In a device'ot fthe character described, l

In a device of the character described, the combination of a stand member, a supporting head member having ears adapted to engage a part of said stand member, and a cam-acting lever clamping member pivotally held to the head member and having an ear adapted to engage a part oiE the stand member and also having means to limit its pivotal movement in one direction.
17.V In a device of the Character described, the combination of a substantially triangular supporting head member'having rigid arms two of which are adapted to receivel the feet of a typewriting machine, an elongated and cam-acting lever member pivotally held to the other arm and having at its outer end a hooked shaped engaging portion adapted to engage a part of the typewriting machine frame, and lsupporting means clamped by said members.
18. In a device of the character described,
the combination of a substantially triangular supporting head member having rigid arms, and an elongated lever member pivotally held to the other arm and having at its outer end a hooked shaped engaging portion adapted to engage an object, and supporting means engaged by said members.
19. In a device of the character described, the combination of supporting means, and a substantially T-shaped and foldable supporting head detachably held to said supporting means.

In a device of the character described, the combination of a stand member, a vsupporting head member adapted to rest over said stand member, a lever member having a part adapted to engage the stand member, a rivet having a head for pivotally holding the said members together, and a spring washer interposed between the lever member and the head of the rivet.
21. In a device of the character described, the combination of supporting means, a head member adapted to rest over said supporting means, a lever member forming a part of the head, means for pivotally holding said members together, and a spring washer infso vioo
terposed between the lever member and a Vpart of the pivoting means.
22. in a device of the character described, the combination of a shell-like body provided with two integral lugs extending upward therefrom of relatively different diameters, a head member having slots adapted to t over said lugs, and means for clamping the head member to said body.
28. In a typewriter stand, the combination of a head having means to support a typewriter thereon, collapsible legs, means forming a connection between the head and the legs, and a foot-rest pivoted to one of said legs and extending inwardly therefrom and adapted to fold close to one of said legs, and a spring for holding the foot-rest in an unfolded or normally operative position or in a folded or inoperative position, said footrest having a body pro-vided with upwardly extending marginal walls lengthwise thereof.

A device of the character described, comprising a stand member, a two-part supporting head pivotally connected together and provided with clamping means adapted to engage the stand member and to clamp the head thereto when the head members are in their normal supporting positions, and adapted to release the stand member when said parts are moved outl of supporting position.
25. A device of the character described,
comprising a stand member, a two-part supporting head, the parts thereof being pivotally connected together, one of said parts serving as a cam-like clamping means adapted to engage the stand member when the parts are moved to their normal supporting positions, and means carried by said members to engage the stand member.
26. in a device of the character described, the combination of a stand member formed with two integral lugs extending upwardly therefrom, a. head member having slots adapted to iit over said lugs, said member being formed of two parts pivotally connected together, and means carried by the parts of the said head member for clamping the said member to the stand member when the said head members are in their normal supporting positions.
27. ln a device of the character described, the combination of a stand member provided with two integral lugs extending upwardly therefrom, a supporting head member adapted to rest over said stand member and having slots adapted to iit over the said lugs cn the stand member, a lever member forming a part of the head member and having a part adapted to engage the stand member, and means carried by the head members and adapted to engage the stand member to lock the head member thereto.
28. In a device of the character described, the combination of a stand member and a foldable supporting head carrying means to clamp said head to the stand member when the parts of the foldable head member are in their open or supporting position.
In a device of the character described, the combination of supporting means and a foldable supporting head formed of two members pivotally connected together and adapted to be detachably held to said supporting members when said foldable members are in their open or supporting position.
