Withinthe receptacle'9 is a'lump-preventing device consisting of a standard 16 provided at the bottom with right angularly disposed spurs ord eet v1'7 received within slits'in the bottom of-the-standarch and said standard is provided with sets 18 and 19 of outwardly projecting'fingersor spurs; the sets 18 and 19 being alternately arranged at right angles to one another.

The upper end of the standard 16 isprovided with an angular portion or head 20 to be received within the angular socket 21 of the cover 22 which fits over the open end of the receptacle 1 and thereby closes the open end of the container 2. The spring 23 surrounding the standard 16 has one end bearing against a spring seat, in the present instance shown as the projections 18. The other end is adapted to be seated against the bottom of the cap or cover 22 so that the expansive tendency of the spring when under compression will be effective in main taining the bottom of the standard in intimate contact with the closed end of the receptacle 9.

When the parts are assembled, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and the condiment is contained within the receptacle 9, the entire contents will be protected against deterioration due to atmospheric conditions because the openings 2 and 15 will be out of alinement. If, however, it is desired to use the device as a dredge the handle 3 may be grasped and by utilizing the thumb to draw the button or actuator 8 from left to right a partial rotative movement will be impart-- ed to the inner receptacle 9 against the action of the spring 10. hen the actuator has been moved width of the cut-out portion 6, the openings 15 will be in register with the openings 2, whereupon the contents. of the receptacle 9 may be removed by shaking. 1

As soon as pressure is released upon'the actuator or button 8 the spring 10 will immediately rotate the receptacle 9 to its normal position, which will be a closing position, so that the contents of the receptacle 9 may not be removed. Inasmuch as the cover 22 fits over the outer receptacle which is nonrotatable, and to which the standard 16 is rigidly held, it will be apparent that a rotation of the receptacle 9 in either direction will be effective in rotating the body of the condiment about the standard so that the material must pass between the spurs or fingers so that any adhering particles will be separated each time the receptacle 9 is given a partial rotation and any lumps forming within the receptacle 9 will be broken up.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. In a device of the kind described, in combination an outer casing, aninner casing rotatably mounted in the outer casing, said outer casing being formed with an arcuate slot,a handle secured to said outer casing, an actuating button having a shank secured to said inner caslng so as to move Copies of this patent may be obtained for substantially the entire between the ends of said slot, an agitator secured in and adapted to be secured unrotatably to the outer casing, and a flat spring secured around said outer casing and having its free end portion projecting into said slot, and curved around so as to engage the curved wall of said inner casing and so as to bear with its extremity against one edge of said slot, said shank projecting through said spring, said button adapted to press said spring out of contact with the outer casing so as to rotate the inner casing.

2. In a device of the class described, in combination an outer casing, an inner casing rotatably mounted therein,'a cover fixedly secured to said outer casing, the bottom of he outer casing having a diametrical series of openings while the bottom of said inner casing is formed with opposing slots, a standard removably secured at its upper end to said cover, a series of singularly-disposed scraping spurs secured at the bottom of said inner casing, a series of outwardly-projecting fingers secured on said standard and a spring coiled around standard and bearing at one end aga nst said cover and at its opposite end against the uppermost finger to force said spurs in engagement with the bottom of the inner casing, means for rotating said inner casing and a depressible spring adapted to engage said inner casing so as to hold its opening out of register with said slots.
