Description

P. noon. TURNBUCKLE.
. APPLICATION FILED SEPT-15' I516- 1,245,09 5. Patented Oct. 30, 1917.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PATRICK FLOOD, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK, A SSIGNOB OF ONE-HALF TO EDWARD J'. B.
MURRAY, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
TURNBUCKLE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Oct, 30, 1917.
Application filed September 16, 1916. Serial No. 120,509.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK FLOOD, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at the city of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Imtprovements in Turnbuckles, of which the followin is a specification.
ily invention relates to turnbuckles, and the object of my invention is to provide a means for locking the turnbuckle so as to prevent spreading of the parts united by the buckle; together with such other elements and combinations as are hereinafter more particularly set forth.
I accomplish these objects by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a plan view of my turnbuckle.
Fig. 2 is a. side elevation of same.
Fig. 3 is a section along the line, 33, on Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a section along the line, 44:, on Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a side elevation showing my invention applied to an open buckle.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The turnbuckle, A, is provided with right and left threads in the usual manner, and between the two is preferably arranged an hexagonal portion, B, upon which is placed the locking spider, K, which may be keyed to the portion, 13, or may be secured from lateral movement thereon in any suitable manner. To one of the blocks, E, with which the turnbuckle engages, I hinge the locking arm, L, which fits in one of the openings, h, in the spider, K, and in the bifurcated lug, N, in the block, M, where it may be held by a cotter pin or other retaining device, 0.
In Fig. 5 I show my invention applied to an open buckle, and the arm, R, is pivoted to the bifurcated lug, P, on one of the blocks, P, engages the spider, Q, and is held in position in the lugs, S, extending from the opposite block, T.
I do not limit .myself to the exact construction shown, except as required by the scope of the appended claim.
What 'I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: V A turnbuckle provided with right and left threaded portions; members with which the said portions engage respectively; an hexagonal portion; a splder secured .to said hexagonal portion; an arm pivoted to one of the members; a bifurcated lug on the other of said members; and means for securing said arm in the spider and in said bifurcated lug.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses PATRICK FLOOD. I Vitnesses:
BEULAH CABLE, FREDERICK W. CAMERON.
