To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES F. BRADY and JOHN J. DIssER, citizens of the United States of America, and residents of Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fumigating Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fumigating apparatus and the object thereof is to afford an appliance for reducing the fluid and semi-fluid disinfectants to a vaporous state and disseminate the vapor in buildings and inclosures that contain poultry, stock and farm products, the purpose being to exterminate vermin.
The object of the invention is accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the device shown partly in central section; and
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the perforated coiled pipe from which the fluid is discharged into the fire-pot.
Referring now to the drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon: 1 is a cylindrical casing having handles attached to its side for carrying the device about. The casing has in its lower part a head (3) closing the same, and immediately above the head is a series of openings (4) made through the walls of the casing for the admission of air. Upon the head within the casing is fixed a spider consisting of legs (5) having a ring (6) supported at their upper ends. In the ring is seated a fire-pot (7) having a handle (8).
Upon the top of the casing (l) is removably fitted a bonnet (9) having a stack (10) I extending from its upper end and affording open communication for air. Upon the outer face of the bonnet is mounted a reservoir (11) adapted to contain fluid, and a pipe (12) leads from the bottom thereof and has a valve (13) in connection therewith for controlling the outflow of the fluid through the pipe. A pipe (14) leads from the valve through the wall of the bonnet and extends in the form of a coil in a horizontal plane numerous perforations (15) through which the fluid is discharged.
In the operation of the invention the firepot is filled with coals, such as those as are formed by partially burning corn-cobs, charcoal or other combustibles, and the pot thus charged is placed in position in the spider. The bonnet is then placed in position upon the casing and the valve is turned so as to allow the disinfectant fluid to pass from the reservoir into the coiled pipe. The heat of the coals in the firepot causes an upward draft of air that is admitted through the openings (4) and which becomes heated by the radiation of heat from the fire-pot and passes upward through the bonnet and out through the stack. The heated air as it passes the coiled pipe has a tendency to cause the fluid, or semi-fluid disinfectants to flow and drip from the perforations di rectly into the fire-pot. Thus, the fluid flowing upon the live coals becomes trans formed into a vaporous state and passes with the rising current of heated air out through the stack from which it naturally disseminates.
The disinfectant employed in the apparatus may be any of the well-known sub stances in fluid form, such as what is commonly known as Economy germicide dip.
What we claim is 1. In apparatus of the class described. a casing having vent openings in its lower portion, a spider within the casing, a removable fire-pot supported by the spider, a bonnet removably mounted upon the top of the easing, a reservoir, and a perforated pipe having connection with the reservoir and extending into the inclosure formed by the bonnet and the casing directly over the fire-pot, said bonnet having an open stack leading therefrom.

In apparatus of the class described, a casing having vent openin s in the lower portion thereof, a fire-pot suitably supported within the casing, a reservoir, a perforated pipe having connection extending over the fire-pot and adapted for the dis charge of fluid therefrom directly into said fire-pot.
