WILLIAM WEST, OF HOQUIAM, WASHINGTON.
FLOORING-CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 8, 1915, Serial No. 6,780. Renewed March 3, 1917. Serial No. 152,438. 7
To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM Wear, a citizen of Finland, residing at Hoquiam, in the county of Chehalis and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flooring-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in flooring clamps and its object is to produce a device of this class that is simple inv construction, cheap to manufacture and efficient in operation.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of said specification and in which Figure 1 is a plan view-of the tool in use.
Fig. 2 is a similar view illustrating another roller.
Fig. 3 is an end view of the tool.
Fig. 4 is a similar view illustrating the use of another roller.
Fig. 5 is a section taken on line5-5 of Fig. 7.
Fig. 6 is a side view of the tool provided with another type of roller.
Fig. 7 is a side elevation of one form of roller employed.
Fig. 8 is a section taken on line 88 of Fig. 3.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The reference character l'designates the handle of the tool which is provided with the head 2 which is curved from its center toward its pointed end 3 and which terminates in a bifurcated heel 4 at its opposite end. The heel 4 is adapted to receive the transverse shaft or pin 5 that carries any one of the rollers 6, 7 which are positioned in the bifurcated portion of said heel. The roller 6 is formed with a grooved periphery 9, corrugated edge 8 and with a plurality of depressions 9 arranged in a circle any one of which is adapted to receive the end of a locking pin 10 that extends through an aperture 11 in one side of the bifurcated copies of this patent may be obtained for locked in an adjusted position when desired- It will be noticed that the point 3 of the head falls outside a plane passed through Patented Oct. 9, ran.
the longitudinal center of the head so that in usethepoint is embedded in one of the stringers 14 of the floor and the grooved periphery of the roller placed in engagement with the tenon of a piece of flooring being laid to force the piece of flooring into close engagement with the piece just previously laid, the corrugated edge 8 of the roller engaging the edge of the piece of flooring. By pressing upon the handle 1 of the tool in this position the point 3 disposed below the level of the flooring and in engagement with the stringer will act as a pivot to permit the roller to be firmly,
pressed against the flooring. The roller 7 illustrated in Figs. 1, 4, 5 and 7 is formed with a bead 15 which is adapted'to be inserted in the mortise of a piece of flooring to press the same into close engagement with the piece of flooring-previously laid; the use of the rollers 6 or 7 will depend upon whether the flooring islaid'from right to left or vice versa.
What is claimed is A floor clamp comprising a handle, a head carried by said handle and disposed at right angles thereto and having one end curved and tapered to a point and its opposite, end bifurcated, a transverse'pin connecting the prongs of said bifurcated end, a roller arranged upon said pin as a center and formed with a plurality of perforations arranged in a circle about said pin, a leaf'spring carried by said head and a locking pin carried by said leaf spring and passing through one prong of said head for releasable engagement with any one'of the perforated portions of said roller.
In testimony that Iv claim the foregoing as my own Ihave hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
