COLLAR-HOLDER.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented oet. e, 1917.
Original application led September 18, 1916, Serial No. 120,745. Divided and this'application led January 25, 1917. Serial No. 144,475.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ARCHIE A. KINIO'N, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sand Springs, in the county of Tulsa and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The present application is va division of the application filed September 1S, 1916, Serial No. 120,745.
This invention relates to improvements in collar and necktie holders, and has for one of its objects to provide a simply constructed device whereby the collar may be connected to the neck band of a shirt without employing a collar button.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device whereby the collar may` be secured to the neck band of a shirt without structural change in the collar or the neck band.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will support the collar upon the shirt band and at the same timesupport a neck tie in position at the back of the neck.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consistsl in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the clai1ns;'and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the in# vention- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a collar equipped with one of the improved holders.
Fig. 9 is an enlarged transverse section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detached perspective view of the improved device.
Fig. 4 is a view of the blank from which the improved device is constructed.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters. y
The improved device is formed from a strip ofvlnaterial, preferably of celluloid or like material or compound, or of metal suitably plated or otherwise ornamented or protected. The device is formed initially of a stri of material represented as a whole at 10 in *ig 4, rounded at the ends and with ar U shaped cleft cut through the body whereby a relatively elongated tongue, represented as a whole at 11, is produced. The
tongue portion of the device is first bent at lts root, indicated by the dotted line .12, substantially into parallel rela-tion to the lower part of the body 10 to produce the portlon 13, and thence bent into an open hook shaped portion 14 which likewise eX-v tends for the major portion of its length in parallel relation to the portion 13. Near its free end the hook shaped portion 14 is bent inwardly toward the body 1), as indicated at 15.
the majorpart of the body to produce a hook like portion 16, the portion 16 being disposed at the opposite side of the body from the portions 13-.-14. At its upper end 'the body is bent over into hook like shape, as shown at 17, the confronting terminals of the portions 16-#17 being spaced apart for a' considerable distance, as shown.
The completed device is clearly shown in- Fig. 3. l
The improved device is applied by inserting the portion 14 through the button hole at the rear of the collar, indicated at 18, and moved therein to bringy the material of the collar which is located below the button hole into the space between the portion 13 'and the body 10 of the device. This leaves the major part of the body and the hook shaped portions 16-17 externally of the outer ply of the collar, or between thel folds when applied to a. turn-over collar.
A portion of the neck band of the shirt is represented at 19 with the outer flap 20 secured at its upper edge to the upper edge of the neck band, and the collar having the.
attachment thereon is disposed in position around the neck and the portion 14--15` of the tongue forced upwardly between the neck band and the flap.` The depressed terminal 15 compresses the iiap against the adjacent portion of the collar, and thereby materially increases the friction between the parts. It will be noted by reference to Fig. 2 that the-.depressed portion 15 of the device deflects the flap and presses it against the adjacent portion of the collar, thereby elfectually preventing the' accidental displacement of the device.I The pressure exerted by the resiliencyv of the member 14-15 against the adjacent portions of the flap and the collar will be suiiicient to prevent the collar and attachment from moving At itsilower end the body portion 10 is bent into parallel relation to loo downwardly, while the bend at the juncture of the vportions 13-14 operates to prevent the upward movement of the collar. portions- 16-17 coact to support a neck tie, indicated at 22, and prevent its displacement. rlhe neck tie may be placed in posi* tion before the collar is disposed around the neck of the wearer, or after the collar is disposed in position, as may be preferred.
The improved device is simple in construction, can be inexpensively manufactured, and by means of which the collar may be easily and quickly attached to the shirt without the necessity for employing the usual collar buttons.
rllhe device thus serves not only as a support for the collar but as a guide and support for the neet: tie.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new isl. A collar holder inciuding a body bent at its extremities to provide confronting hooks defining a tie receiving loop with the inlet thereto between the bills of the hooks and having a tongue struclr from the body and bent upon itself to provide a hook for connecting the holder with a collar, the tongue terminating in an upstanding wing converging at its free extremity toward the body and adapted for engagement with the neck band of a shirt for connecting the collar thereto.
2. A collar holder formed from a single piece of resilient material and including a body bent at its extremities to produce confronting hooks and forming a tie receiving loop, the inlet to the loop heing between the bills of the hooks, said body having a tongue struck longitudinally therefrom and bent upon itself to provide a hook disposed for engagement with a collar for connecting the holder thereto, the free extremity of said hook 'terminating in an upstanding wing` disposed for engage ment with a shirt band and provided adjacent its upper extremity with a depression for clamping the band between the wing and the body to prevent displacement of the collar.
ln testimony whereof l affix my signature.
