iltfislnoted that the principal stresses of operation in this structure originate from the opposite forces at the cross head and the bearings of the crank shaft7 and these stresses are met directly by the columns 7, which also serve as the guides for the cross head sleeves. i
To support a shaft 20 carrying a pinion 21 for meshing engagement With-the gear Wheel 12 of thec'rank shaft, a pair of split sleeves 22,including outstanding ears 23 and clamping bolts 24 passed therethrough, arebetween the bearing blocks r8 and the cross head and these sleeves carry laterally projected bearing arms 25 in which the shaft 20 is mounted. These arms project a suiicient distance to provide clearance for the lateral movement'` functions heretofore stated also serve to support the pinion shaft, and more particularly in a manner whereby its pinion 21 may be accurately adjusted for mesh with the gear wheel 12.` 'The shaft 20 may be driven by desired means, in the present instance a belt wheel 26 being provided thereon.
While I have `describedmy invention inv connection with a deep well pump structure for which it is particularly adapted, it is obvious that thek invention ymay find use in other fields wherein an oscillatory movement is procured by the use of a crank'and pinion, and. wherein the strain of operation would be mainly longitudinal of the direction of oscillatory movement.
