CoLeLAzniR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Sangamonand State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Automatic Toys, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to mechanical toys,
' and applies more particularly to a novel vso form of automatic conveyer operated by weights, by which a miniature carvmay be hoisted, filled with sand, allowed todescend, and dumped, ina methodical and orderly manner.
The object of my invention is to provide anamusement device of the foregoing character,1.which will be simple and ineX pensive of manufacture, and which will be instructive and attractive in appearance and operation. v
With the foregoing and otheriobjects in view, my invention consists of the new and useful details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts, described1herein,-,

Referring now to the drawings, numeral 1 designates a pair of upright standards, and numerals 2 a pair of rear upright standards, which standards comprise a framework upon which inclined track bed 3 is mounted, the rear standards being of greater length than the forward standards.

It will be readily seen that, as the car descends on track bed 3, when endgate 24 reaches triangular projection 27, projection 27 will raise the endgate upward to allow the contents of the car to be dumped. Numerals 29 designate stops which engage the wheels of the car and prevent further travel downward.
In operation, I fill the hopper 6 with sand, or similar material, angle plate 8 normally closing the opening in the bottom. Car 13, being empty, will be drawn upward along the track by weight 15 on cable 14. As the rear end of the car comes into contact with crank arms 12, cross shaft 9 will be rotated in bearings 10 and angle plate 8 actuated out from under opening 7 in hopper 6.
Sand from the hopper will then feed out of hole 7 into car 13. When sufficient sand has fed into the car to overcome the weight 15, car 13 will descend along track rails 4, and angle plate 8 will swing back into its normal position under the mouth of hopper 6 by the actuation of weights 11. When the car reaches the lower end of track t, endgate 24 of the car will be actuated upward by projections 27, and the sand will be dumped. Weight 15 will immediately draw the car upward, and the same operations will be repeated continuously until the sand in the hopper has become exhausted.
It will be readily seen that, as pulley 16 is revolved during the ascent or descent of car 1&, likewise pulleys 18, automatons 20, and flags 80 on cables 21 will be actuated auto-- matically therewith.
While I have herein described and illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to be limited strictly to the construction shown, as it is obvious that the details of arrangement and combination may be varied in many ways, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a mechanical toy, the combination of a frame-work, an inclined track mounted on said frame-work, a shaft mounted across the upper end of said track, a pulley in the center of-said shaft, a car on said track, a cable attached to said car and carried over the pulley on the shaft, a weight on the rear end of said cable to normally draw the car upward along the track, pulleys on each end of said shaft, flagstaffs mounted above the inclined track, pulleys on the upper ends of the flagstaffs, and cables carrying flags trained over the pulleys on the ends of the shaft and the pulleys on the flagstafis, substantially as described.
2. In a mechanical toy, a frame-work, an inclined track thereon, a car adapted to travel on said track, and means for dumping said car comprising a vertically sliding endgate on the car having projecting end portions, and a flange on each side of the track providing up-raised portions adapted to engage the under side of the projecting ends of the endgate to actuate said endgate upward, substantially as described.
