Be it known that I, HENRY HARDISTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Raymond, in the county of Pacific and State of lVashington, have invented a new and useful Logging-Hook, of which the,

following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in logging hooks.

The object, of the present invention is to improve the construction of logging hooks and to provide a simple, inexpensive and efficient logging hook of light strong and durable construction adapted to save time and labor in various logging operations and equipped with means for effectually preventing it from coming accidentally unhooked.

WVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

The reduced end 7 of the latch member. is pivoted in the slot or bifurcation of the end 6 by a transverse rivet 9 or other suitable fastening device and the said latch member which constitutes a latch section is adapted to extend across the opening 2 of the body portion 1 to complete that side of the hook for confining a link or similar member in the closed opening of the logging hook. The latch member is adapted to be swung upwardly or outwardly from the closed position shown in Fig. 1 of the draw-1 ing to the position shown in Fig. 4 to open the logging hook and enable the outer terminal hooked-shaped portion 4 to be engaged with or disengaged from a link. The outer terminal hooked-shaped portion a is adapted to be readily engaged with a link of a chain when the latch member is in its open position.

The outer terminal hooked-shaped portion is provided at the outer side of the opening 2 with a longitudinal extension 10 reduced at the outer side to form a recess 11 for the reception of the overlapping portion 12 of the latch member, and thelatter is reduced at the inner side at 13 to receive the reduced extension '10 of the outer hooked-shaped portion of the body. The extension 10 and the reduced portion 12 of the pivoted latch member have flat faces at their recesses to fit against each other and the said parts are provided with terminal lugs 14 and 15 which fit in-corr'esponding, slots or openings'lfi and 17.
