This invention relates to garments, and

particularly to protecting garments to be worn by mechanics or the like for the protection of the ordinary clothing; and it has for its primary object the provision of a garment of this character which may be readily applied to the person to properly and effectually protect the trousers and which will include a bib or apron arranged at the front of the garment and adapted to afford a double protection to the ordinary garments of the wearer. I

'Another object of the inventi'on is the provision of. a garment of this character which may be quickly and conveniently applied to the person without the trousers of the person being soiled by having to extend the .feetdownwardly through the legs of the garment, the sides of the garment or legs thereof being divided longitudinally whereby the legs of the wearer may be placed into the legs of the garment sidewise and the legs of the garment then buttoned up along their divided portions and properly connected.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a garment of this character in which the different parts thereof may be thoroughly cleaned and laundered as the occasion may demand.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

Referring first to the garment as shown in Figs. 1-2-3, the same comprises trousers.

In this manner, dirt contained on the shoes of the person will be held against smearing the inside surface of the legs of the garment and such dirt will be positively held against marring the ordinary trousers of the wearer. By constructing the trousers in this manner it will also be seen that they may be thoroughly cleaned and laundered as the occasion may necessitate.

Above the waist-line the apron is extended to form a bib 12, which extends over an adjacent portion of the shirt or coat of the wearer, and as illustrated the sides of the bib are curved gradually along the line 13 into the adjacent vertical sides of the main body portion of the apron so that said vertical sides may be snugly folded around the adjacent sides of the person and then held in such position by tapes 14, 1% arranged at the upper corners of the apronand at'the juncture of the bib with the main body portionof the apron. These tapes may be ex- "tended around the waist of the wearer and any part of the length of the strap that may be necessary to cause the garment to properly fit upon the person. The bib of the garment is provided with a ocket 19 and below the bib the main ho y portion of the garment is provided with a similar pocket 20.

In the form of the invention shown in Figs. l and 5 the trousers of the garment is similar to the trousers of the garment described in the preferred embodiment of the invention, the difference being in providing one side of each slit leg with a longitudinal series, of resilient heads or fastenings 21. that are adapted to be received in resilient sockets 22 on the other portion of the split leg. At, the waist-line or" the trousers and at {the front thereof is an apron 23 similar to the apron in the preferredembodiment of the invention. This aprain is rovided with a waist connection in the orm of tapes 24, 24 that may be extended around the waist of the wearer and then be tied together as in the form of the invention described in Figs. 1 to 3, inclusive.

The apron is then extended above the trousers of the garment, so as to form a bib 24. The upper corners of the 'bib are provided with resilient heads 27, 27 that are adapted to be fitted in resilient sockets 28, 28 carried by shoulder straps 29, 29. These straps cross each other at the back of the garment and they are secured togetherat 30 and the lower rear ends of the straps are stitched or otherwise suitably secured to the back portion of the .trousers of the garment along the waist line, as at 31. In this form of the invention the bib at the upper portion of the apron has secured thereto a single length of material 32. Longitudinal lines of stitching33 are taken in the bib and in said material so as to separate the latter into different communicating subdivisions. The material is thus arranged so as to define with the bib of the garment a pocket in which a rule, pencil or other I similar objects or tools may be arranged and conveniently carried upon the garment. The apron is provided below the Waist-line with a suitable pocket 34. In other respects this form of the invention is identical with the form referred to in Figs. 1, 2 and 3.
