SOLDERING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

T0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, FRED KANDEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at W'ilkinsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soldering Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in soldering irons.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a soldering iron, so constructed that the same is self heating, and which can be quickly heated, without necessitating placing the same in the usual furnace.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an iron of the above specified character, which is so constructed that the various parts thereof can be quickly removed and replaced in case of wear or for any other reason.
A further object of the invention is to improve and simplify devices of this character, rendering them comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and eflicient in use, and readily operated.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention resides in the certain novel features of construction, formations, combinations, and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, it being understood in this connection, that various minor changes in the specific details of construction can be resorted to within the scopeof the appended claim, without departing from the spirit or sacricing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying one sheet of drawing, Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view, taken through my improved soldering iron; and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view, taken on the line -m of Fig. 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by corresponding characters of reference, to indicate like parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates in general my improved soldering iron, which consists of a hollow handle 6, a heating head 7 and a tubular body portion 8, having spaced series of apertures 9 and 10, to permit the entrance of air into said body portion 8. The handle 6 is preferably provided with a removable end 11, which permits access to the same, while the opposite end thereof has a suitable filling opening 12, and a threaded opening 13, which latter has threaded engagement with the outer end of a pump whlih is shown in conventional form as at A pipe 15, leads from the hollow handle 6, through the tubular body portion 8, to a point adjacent the head 7, this said pipe containing cotton or the like as at 1G, whereby the fuel passing from the handle 6, will be strained, while being forced through the said tube or pipe 15, by means of air under pressure supplied by the pump 14. The inner or forward end of the pipe 15 has a downwardly inclined inlet nozzle 17, while the same is held against any undesired movement, by the support 18, which may be of any character. This pipe l5 is preferably upset at its forward end as at 19 in advance of which the fuel is vaporized and discharged through the nozzle 20, positioned adjacent the inner end of the head 7. The flow of fuel through the pipe 15 is controlled by the valve 21. The head 7 is formed with a central bore 22, terminating short of the tapered outer end thereof and connecting with the rearwardly extending branches 23, which lead through the head adjacent the outer surface thereof, providing a means for quickly heating the same, at the expense of but very little fuel.
From the foregoing it will be manifest that a soldering iron is provided, which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.
Having thus fully described this invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
In a soldering device such as described, a hollow handle, a removable closure for one end of the handle, a support conforming to the shape of the interior of the handle and engaging the removable closure for the end thereof, a tubular body portion having one end engaged by the removable closure and secured thereto and extending outwardly from said hollow handle, a head secured to the opposite end of the tubular body portion, said head having a central rearwardly extending passage therein and supplementary passages leading from the forward end of the central passage to the rear of said head and opening through the outer sides thereof, a partition disposed within said tubular body and having an opening low handle for the purpose of forcing fuelL 10 therein, a pipe supported by said partition from the hollow handle through said pipe.
